Ockham's razor states that "entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity" or that the most direct solution is usually the best. With that in mind, and with due consideration for the suggestions by @Chan Eil Whiskers, @JAHE and @Mr. Shavington, it was "back to basics" for shave number 5 with the Rocnel Sailor. Went with the 3 setting for all passes, including touchups. Also went with the protocol I use with my ultra high efficiency razors like the Stirling Stainless HA and Roedter: No j-hooks or slides. No oblique angled strokes. Shave like I'm driving a Bentley and not a Ferrari. Stop at DFS and don't overshave. So how did this work? Much better shave today, and my face isn't at all angry. Didn't have to work hard to get a DFS+ over most of my face. I resolved to accept what the Sailor can give me, and that seemed to work. Retired the Perma-Sharp blade after today's shave. Going with a Feather blade tomorrow.

One week, 7 days straight, with the Rocnel Sailor. Went up to the 3.5 setting for all passes, including touchups, today. Another very enjoyable and excellent DFS+ shave!

Lessons learned:

• The approach used with the Rocnel Sailor will depend, in part with the face, skin and beard of the individual.
• The simplest and most direct approach is the best.
• Stay with the same setting throughout the shave. I found 3 to 3.5 works great and will be trying 4, 4.5 and 5 to see exactly where my personal sweet spot rests.
• Works quite well using a steep angle.
• No fancy (J-hook, Slide, Oblique, etc.) stuff. None. Don't do it.
• Shaving with the Sailor is like driving a big Bentley or Rolls Royce luxury car - not highly nimble and maneuverable - and you can't expect it to behave like a sports car.
• Back to big heavy razor basics: Medium, measured strokes. Let the weight and stablility of the razor do the work. Minimize pressure.

Once I got things dialed in, the Rocnel Sailor rewarded me with excellent daily shaves. The Sailor is definitely a Big Dog that can be used every day!

Back to the Ferrari for New Year's Day! The Blackland Razors Ti Vector SB did not disappoint. An outstanding DFS++ (at least) shave. Close, comfortable, outstanding in every way!

First shave with the AP Shave Co Candy Stripe fitted with the 26mm MiG Synthetic (Hybrid Shape) knot. Excellent first impression. Kind of reminds me of the STF. More to follow.

Heavy rain followed by heavy snow. Lost power Saturday at 3pm PST. Estimated restoral for our area not until Wednesday at 7pm PST. We have a portable generator and can run an area heater, coffee pot and a light in the living room. Animals and us are warm and doing fine.

There are restaurants a 10 minute drive away that we frequent regularly, so we head down there and grab food.

Cold water shaves when it's 18°F can be quite invigorating.

Decided to drive the Bently today. Set the Rocnel Sailor to number IV and enjoyed an efficient, smooth and very predictable shave. The Feather, like the Perma-Sharp, is an excellent match. All in all, very effective overall. Definitely a Big Dog!

Yesterday, I used the new AP Shave Co synthetic brush my Lovely Bride got me for Christmas. Today I'm jumping into BADGERary 2023 with the wonderful Rudy Vey Butterscotch Beehive. Most of my Rudy Vey brushes sport the Shavemac 24mm 2-Band Silvertip Fan. I really like this knot. With Rudy's handles, this is a world class combination!

Going with my Alpha Big Dog DE razor today. Loaded the Blackland Razors Ti Blackbird with a fresh Perma-Sharp and enjoyed a highly efficient, nimble & maneuverable, very smooth, very predictable and highly effective shave. Definitely still my Alpha Big Dog DE Razor!

First use of the Lattafa Perfumes 24 Carat EdP Spray Fragrance. I agree with the description published by Lattafa: "Oudh, Roses, Incense, Amber, Leather, Musk, & Vanilla. Powerful Arabic Attar perfume." Very nice fragrance and I didn't have to use much at all.
