never-stop-learning's Quest for Knowledge

I went back though your notes and noticed you haven't had the Tallow + Steel out for a while, awesome to see it back it back into your rotation as I've been super curious about that brand. You mentioned you were really impressed with it's performance, would you say it's in there with like Catie's or B&M? I've been trying to decide on a scent of theirs to try out.

Problem with having a Soap Acquisition Disorder is forgetting to revisit some really good soaps more often. ;)

Love the Tallow + Steel West Indies soap. Very spicy. Goes with all my Bay Rum Aftershaves.

The performance is quite good. Maybe not quite up to the Martin de Candre and Saponificio Varesino soaps or the Cyril R Salter Tub Creams, but it's close. Same territory as the WSP Formula T and Rustic soaps. Darn good soap that I could use every day.

Hope this helps. :)

I never seem to be able to leave well enough alone so..... another interesting Frankenrazor combination using the Personna New Angle 70 (aka "BBS-0"). Had to fiddle a bit but achieved symmetrical blade exposure. The 1966 Tech cap seems to have more blade exposure than the stock Personna cap. How does it shave, you ask? Not bad. Maybe a bit more efficient than the stock Personna, but also less smooth. Changed caps back to the stock Personna for my Touchup Pass and confirmed my initial impressions: The stock Personna New Angle 70 (aka "BBS-0") is the better razor. :)

I'll be using the Aluminum SE1, the Stainless SE1 and yes, there will be a guest appearance by the X1 Slant. First run through will be with the Kai Captain Titan Protouch MG. Second run through will be with the Schick Proline P. I'll gauge whether to move up to the "big leagues" and do a third run through with the Feather Pro Super blade.

But first, did yesterday's shave with the Colonial Razors The General V2 and today's shave with the Blackland Razors Ti Vector SB. Gots to tune my face up to gauge where these fine ATT razors are placed in my Pantheon of Razors. :)

Above The Tie comparison week: Aluminum SE1, Stainless SE1 and X1 Slant. First up, the Aluminum SE1 razor using the Kai Captain Titan Protouch MG blade.
  • Efficient, even with the guarded blade.
  • Moderately smooth, easy to overshave specific areas if not careful.
  • Moderately nimble and maneuverable, not as easy to navigate my problem areas.
  • Predictable, didn't feel like it was going to bite me.
  • Between medium and highly effective. Not quite in my top group of four AC blade razors and not what I'd term a Daily Driver. The ATT Aluminum SE1 is an excellent value that provides a lot of performance for a reasonable price.
  • All in all, I like the ATT Aluminum SE1. It's a very good razor that I like to use occasionally. :)

Getting philosophical today..... 🤔

I've arrived at the realization that the Vectors (Ti and SS), The General and the X1 Slant have all achieved a sufficient level of superb and incredible so that rankings become a matter of individual preference. The quality of the shave each razor produces is top tier in all respects. :)

My old original SS General blew my mind this morning.

Happy shaves,

***Please note: The ATT Mixed Metal Stainless/Aluminum will be added to this comparison and is up to bat for Wednesday's shave.***

Above The Tie SE comparison week: Aluminum SE1, Stainless SE1, Mixed Metal SE1 and X1 Slant. Up to bat for today's shave, the Stainless SE1 razor using the Kai Captain Titan Protouch MG blade.
  • Highly efficient, even with the guarded blade.
  • Smooth, heavy enough to let the razor do the work. Less apt to overshave areas as long as no additional pressure is applied.
  • Low side of medium for nimble and maneuverable, heavy, not as easy to navigate my problem areas.
  • Very Predictable, didn't feel like it was going to bite me.
  • Very effective. Close to my top group of four AC blade razors. Not sure I can call it a Daily Driver - definitely worth investing some more shaves to see. The ATT Stainless SE1 is a high performing razor.
I like the ATT Stainless SE1. It's an excellent razor that will very probably be in the Big Dogs Category. :001_wub:

Looking forward to reading your experience with this one. I too have a mixed ATT (Aluminum head & Bamboo stainless handle). And I have the .91 SB, .58 OC and .25 SB plates!
This razor with the .91 SB plate has to be my hands down most blade forward and aggressive razor.
But I love it!🙂
