Neewbie Question: Where do you apply the Fragrance

I'm a Neewbie, so I'm sure this is going to seem like a dumb question, BUT here goes:

After I wet shave, where do I apply my fragrance? On my wrists and then rub my wrists on my neck? Or, do I apply to my neck and wrists separately? Or can I just apply to my neck?

I don't understand the reason to apply to the wrists at all, why is this done?

Please educate me.

Thanks,

Dave

I'm new to fragrances too, but here is what I have been doing.

A spray to my chest and stomach and maybe my neck. I spray a wrist and rub it on my other wrist. For me, the wrist spray is more for me and gives me a whiff of my cologne/EdT when I want by simply waving my hand near my nose.

i am interested to hear others thoughts on it.

I never apply to wrists or neck.

I do chest only. 1-3 sprays depending on the fragrance potency. A very potent fragrance I will go lower chest. Sometimes I do to both sides of chest (L and R spray), sometimes two midline upper chest. Depends on situation/strength of scent/how much I want scent to be broadcast to those around me.

In regard to where to apply fragrance? Besides a light 'splash' in the hand first, then on the face after shaving of AS, my dearly departed Father (of whom I've always thought of as great teacher and gentleman), taught me (yes...call me old fashioned and I'm proud of it), that the one other best place for applying cologne (either spray or liquid),

is behind the ears & also a 'touch' on the earlobes (my Mother and my Mrs. also do this).

Ever wonder why?

Because your ears are classed as 'pulse points'...just the same as when I apply a light 'splash' of Clubman Citrus Musk to my neck, chest and arms/wrists (other 'pulse points'...and for the Ladies...behind the knee). :lol1:

So in essence...experimentation is one good start...just my

Colognes and EDTs get sprayed (number of spritzes depends on fragrance strength) to the chest followed by a quick swipe with the inside of each wrist.

Aftershaves (like Clubman or the Veg) in the palm of my hand, rub on the face and neck followed by a couple of slaps. Any remainder may go on Otis and the Twins.

I am a fragrance newbie too.

I apply two sprays to my upper chest/lower neck, and one spray to my wrist, and then rub my wrists together. So a total of 3 sprays.

I consider the spray into the air, and walk through it maneuver to be wasteful, does anyone actually think that has merit?

Spraying into the air and walking through it is also a waste IMO. Unless the fragrance is really strong and you don't want to aim and spray it directly to you.

I usually do one or two sprays on the chest depending on the "potence" of the frag.

Then, one spray on left forearm (I spray like on the middle of the forearm so the frag won't get washed off if I wash my hands) then rub with the right forearm. Spraying on the wrists llows you to take a sniff when you move.

It varies but you're getting the general idea here.

The wrists are often used because it is a pulse point that is is also usually "open" and allows your scent to spread around a bit when you move your arms. When women apply perfume, they often dab the wrists and pulse points on the neck. I honestly have no idea if the "pulse points" really make any difference. But, I do think a lot of frag heads use the wrists because it's a place you can lift to your nose and check you frag all day.

All these scents when applied to chest can make you susceptible to olfactory fatigue... I.e. your nose is so exposed to it, your system "tunes out" the scent. If you've ever been in cow country, you initially get overwhelmed by the manure smell, but if you're there awhile, your nose stops sensing it. Same concept.

Back of neck can be an effective spot to apply to. Keeps it out immediate range of your nose and allows you to catch whiffs every so often.

This OF is a killer, and is often the cause of people thinking they "got a bad bottle" or thinking the scent doesn't last. Some frags seem more susceptible than others to this. Often I think a scent is worn off and get informed it is indeed still there.

If you want the smell to be out there, spray on your wrists and neck...if you want to keep it a bit subdued, spray under clothes like chest or stomach and let it dry before putting clothes on. If you want to overwhelm everyone around you all day long, spray directly on your clothes.

In my opinion, the whole pulse points thing is snake oil...body heat will make fragrances evaporate and smell more, but the difference in temperature between neck/wrists and chest/stomach is not the reason for any difference in the fragrance....in fact, i'd wager that the chest and stomach are actually warmer because they are insulated with clothes.

Anyway, my preference is the following: one shot to the chest from about 8-10 inches away for work, 2 shots to the same for dinner out with my wife...and maybe an extra shot to the neck or wrists if we were ever to go out dancing or something like that.
