Needs new refrigerator - HELP!

My 20 year old GE is about to bite the dust. I don't want to get another GE, as they don't make them like the use to. We have a Monogram at work, and it's been very problematic.

I'm looking at a 20-24 cubit ft. model, and am leaning towards a LG. I'm open to different styles, but no side-by-side. (French Doors or bottom freezer, ok).

Any LG owners here, or other brand suggestions? Thanks for your help, guys.

I have a whirlpool, and it is the last whirlpool appliance I will ever own. In 7 years, I have had a service guy out three times to replace some valve in the back to keep water from running out of the freezer in down into the fridge portion. I won't even relegate this thing to me garage for beverage storare.

I don't know if there are any really good ones out there. I just replaced a six year old Sears (top of the line) that lost the compressor - a $650 repair. It was not under warranty, which was five originally. The warranties are down to a year, maybe less. I bought the cheapest one I could find, if it is now a consumable item why spend $2000?

Thanks for your input, guys. I was hoping to get a few more answers in this post, but I appreciate your time. R.

About 6 months ago, I bought a refrigerator about the same size as you are looking for. Whirlpools are consistently highly rated (apologies to airplanedoc above) based on reviews on a variety of web sites. GE is way down on the list. LG seemed to me higher priced (with more amenities that can break). I have had good success with Whirlpool appliances in the past, so I went with them.

Bought the 'frig at Home Depot on sale. Home Depot and Lowes had best price in my area when considering delivery, appliance cost and disposal.

Best of luck on your purchase!

We bought a Frigidaire a little more than three years ago when we bought our house. Got it for less than $700 at Lowes, delivered. Side-by-side, ice/water in door. It has run (knock on desk) perfectly since day one, is quiet, good on electricy, and didn't break the bank. Couldn't be happier.

Now that I've tempted the appliance gods, though, it's bound to break.

I just purchase a Kenmore Elite 25cuft bottom freezer French door model (manufactured by LG), and I'm loving it!

My last fridge was a side by side, and the freezer on that thing was almost useless. Hard to fit anything in there, and access to the stuff that you did cram in there was really poor.

I don't have much to offer other than to note that I have been keeping an eye out for a new fridge for about 12 months. There is practically no information about reliability or even reviews of day-to-day functionality online. With all the consolidation in the industry and cost cutting it is difficult to chose solely on brand or specific model. If you look online you will find a lot more models than are available at big box stores like Lowes or Home Depot. I am just waiting for my state's next sales tax free holiday to replace mine.

I agree, I have a side by side GE now. Came with the house I just bought. I cant fit anything in the freezer. Lucky I have a freezer out in my garage for my frozen pizzas and meat and beer. But something to consider if you only have one fridge.
