Needing help with next cream purchase!

Hey guys,

My GFT Coconut Cream is about to be all used up, so I'm in for buying a new shaving cream. Since GFT is expensive, I am now looking at cheaper alternative that would perform as well as my GFT Coconut. GFT really hydrates my skin and kind of leaves an hydrating pellicle on my skin after I rinse it off : I don't even need an aftershave!

So I am hesitating between :

  • Proraso Green, for which I have read very good reviews, and the menthol tingling thing seems appealing. THIS THREAD quite made me want to give Proraso a try.
  • TOBS Avocado : only read good reviews (I know the smell can be off putting to some, but I can live with that if it's a good product).
  • SPEICK Shaving Cream.
  • Also really hesitating on trying Castle Forbes... But the price is DAMN high. Is it worth it?

Thanks in advance for your expertise !

Proraso is very good and should be on your bucket list. Why not try a lavender or a sandalwood, TOBS perhaps or AOS for a little more, since you have tried a Trumper's?

I guess lavender could be a nice option, I've always loved the smell of lavender.

I'm just fearing SWMBO says it may smell a bit... feminine? or does the smell somewhat fades after the shave?

Thanks for your comments ;)

Give TOBS Coconut a try. Its very good. Not as good as the superb Trumpers Coconut however. But substantially cheaper !

I have everything on your list and without a doubt I would say that your next purchase should be TOBS Avocado. Nothing wrong with the rest of them, but I just find the avocado to be superior.

Proraso is relatively inexpensive, lasts forever and seems to be something most people have as a staple. I also vote for TOBS Avocado. It's my "sure thing" cream when my face needs some care, and I always get a great shave.

Derby Lavender. Really inexpensive and works as well as many of the other more costly creams I have tried. Don't dig Derby?? Go with the Speick

GFT Coconut is an amazing cream. Proraso green is excellent and the menthol is great. I would not over look the new red though, I think it has better moisturizing properties than the green. The prices on Prorase are so good you could give both a try and still come in under the price of GFT.

I'll probably do this, like buy a Proraso, and maybe a TOBS, all of which will cost me less than a single GFT cream!

Castle Forbes Lime. A true lime scent and my favourite lime cream. Is it worth it? To me, yes but as always YMMV. Great scent, good lather.

My face had a bad reaction to it (but that happens a lot with me), but The Real Shaving Company cream was a lot of bang for the buck. I got a couple of great shaves from it before my skin reacted poorly to it. May not sound like a ringing endorsement, but I have issues with almost every cream at some point.

Thanks for everyone's input.

I've just bought Proraso Red from a local drug store. Went to buy some cough syrup and saw they were selling tubes of this, and they were cheaper than at my online shaving shop, so my AD kicked in! Gonna give it a try tomorrow!

Since it was about $8 a tube, I still have money for something more high-end. Hesitating between TOBS (Avocado), or maybe Castle Forbes Sandalwood when my paychek will be in. Are they both Paraben-free? I'll probably buy the one that's paraben-free amongst these. (I know many companies reformulated their products recently...)

(researches showed me that GFT Cocunut still has parabens, so I may negatively review my opinion about this cream...)

I'm a dissenting opinion on TOBS Avocado - had a few shaves with it thanks to their sample pack, and its definitely not on my list to pursue. Performance was ok but nothing special, and the grass like scent while not offensive, wasn't appealing either.
