Need to choose masculine RR scent, please help

Hello fellow shavers,

Well after months and I do mean MONTHS, in fact close to a year now , I finally got my older brother to use some of the fine creams available to us instead of canned shaving gel/cream. The truth is I was able to show him the wonders of Nancy Boy (Blossomwood scent for those that care) and he really did enjoy it. I had personally prepared some lather of CF, AoS, TH, GFT, TOBS etc and nada, nothing, bupkis he either did not feel it was worth the price or did not feel any real improvement. He finally tried NB about 8 weeks ago and he began to use it. In fact he confessed that the real problems with the other creams was the need of a brush. Well I stayed over at his house and I brought my RR XXX in which I suggested he try that one. I loaded the brush and HE LOVED IT! He thought it was a FANTASTIC shave the best he's had so far and considering the price and ease of use (honestly I have no problems making mounds of lather with CF, AoS, TH etc) it was his opinion that RR was well worth the slight extra effort on his part for a comfortable shave. Fact of the matter is he loved it so much he stole my damn RR XXX...that "insert string of expletives here".

Now here is the question, his birthday is coming up soon enough and I need some advice on the other RazoRock scents that he may enjoy. I will slowly re-introduce him to some of the previous creams again to see if he enjoys them more but for now I must admit for the price you cannot go wrong with RR. I already have some Tabac soap on the way (HE LOVES TABAC scent but has never tried their soap, instead he uses their cologne, deo and aftershave lotion) so no need to mention that one to me. I would like some suggestions on some "masculine" scents that would appease his olfactory center :001_tongu. I am thinking of getting him some more XXX but am unsure of the others. He does not like sweet scents (there goes the classic marzipan scent). Furthermore he also enjoyed my 1805, Grafton/Mr. Taylor, Blossomwood, Jeremyn Street, St James, Eucris (not my cup of tea). Any thoughts gents?

Cheers

I would get him one each of the La Famiglia Don Marco and Zi' Peppino.
These are two of my most favorite scents, indisputably masculine and clean, and wonderful soaps to boot.

Do I need to mention the fantastic prices?

RR Fresco would be a good choice. It has a Water Mint Fragrance with a hint of the XXX. La Toja Shave stick is also a great choice as it has a unique masculine scent with a hint of mineral salts.

Don Marco? Not really a masculine fragrance in the conventional sense. Enjoyable definitely. But not really masculine IMO.

Anything Sandalwood, Eucalyptus, or Menthol. Tylors of old bond st makes a nice Sandalwood, and as for Eucalyptus/Menthol (or any citrus) go Italian, Proraso

I have the TFS Bergamotto Neroli, and Tabacco Verde (so same as yours just different name). Happen to be two of my favourite soaps and scents, although I prefer the Bergamotto a bit over the Tabacco. Absolutely fantastic soaps.
Scent wise, I am unsure if you would consider Bergamotto Neroli (Don Marco) very masculine. It is definitely enjoyable, and fresh but I am unsure about masculine.

I'm glad the OP got to hear your take on this too, gents! I guess it's funny how we all interpret subjective terms like "masculine"....

For those who don't know - the don marco scent is bergamotto neroli, which I would describe as a nice "in your face" citrus (smells more like orange if you're not familiar).

Interesting thread. Does anyone make cream that smells of motor oil, sweat or gym socks? These would seem masculine.

Why, when we're shaving, do we want to think of things masculine?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, greatly appreciated. I personally would think the smell of bacon would sell great or perhaps the scent of a steak on the grill but of course we might have problems with dogs chasing us and wanting to lick our faces. Hey wait that could work, it would be the aftershave :w00t:. Also 7 O Menthol I wanted the Don Marco for myself...creamsicle....how could I not like that scent mmmmm I might just lick my own face. What I shall do is get a few of the RR and he can decide which scent he prefers. I am just happy that he actually finally enjoys these creams better then what he normally used which left is face red and irritated. He also noted that his hair took longer to come back which I explained was the fact that he gets a closer shave. So another one enters the fold my friends .

Again thanks for all of the suggestions and keep them coming I have Christmas to think of as well :001_tt2:

Cheers

shaved with the RR Don Marco this morning, definitely enjoyable (still prefer poraso) but not masculine in the sense of musk but masculine in the sense that you can smell slightly citrusy and still be awesome. great shaver, havent tried my RR XXX yet so i cant give a comparison but i do enjoy the bergamot undertones of the Don Marco (bergamot is my fave stand alone scent, in the summer)

RR doesn't make a Tabac scented product :001_rolle

my vote is for 888 (the best performing RR i have tried as well)

If you can wait a couple of weeks RR will be coming out with a new scent called Baby Blue aththe end of the month...from what I've heard it will be similar to Blue Floid which IMO is great...kind of and old school barber shop scent.

*Edit* sorry looks like you are looking for a soap/cream, the above is and aftershave.

I would suggest Proraso or any of the RR soaps.

Hello again gents,

Thanks for all of your replies they were very helpful. In the end I purchased Zi'peppino, Nono michelino, Tabac with bowl and the Zi'peppino ASB. While purchasing these goodies I decided to get myself some Don Marco. By the way Bacon Soap....seriously Mama Bear  Again thanks for all of the help

Cheers

I think you selected some great soaps and creams for your older brother. Let us know what he thinks and tell him to join us on this forum so he can learn even more and get the most from the items you selected.

RR Third Eye is a nice sandalwood.

I second the suggestion of Fresco.

Non RazoRock suggestions:
D.R. Harris Marlborough might be up his alley.
Mystic Water Wild Lavender is a nicely spicey, herbaceous lavender.
Bay Rum is a nice manly scent, and lots of good soap/creams come in a bay rum scent.
Spencer & Devon "Spice."
