Need some advise re Head shaving

G'Day Gentlemen,

I got a few question regarding head shaving.

Do you use a DE or Cartridge to shave your head and why?
Do you use your expensive creams and soaps or canned goo?
Whats your post head shave routine?

Appreciate some direction.

Thanks

DE - I no longer use cartridges. Plus the DE doesn't clog.
Soap / cream - I no longer use canned goo, plus it's just easier to use the same lather on face and head.
Rinse and towel.

DE - Merkur Futur setting 4 with Feather Blades. (Never used a cart)
Superlather or TOBS avocado, this give a BBS with two passes.

Warm water rinse, use left over lather to clean face and head, warm water rinse, cold water rinse and finally some ASB.

I really like using a Headblade (especially the new ATX, sold on the HB website) with cheap CVS-knockoff Atra blades purchased online (15 or so shaves, every other day, at 25 centers per blade, so less than 2 cents per shave); I haven't had the courage to try my EJ89 on my head, but the time I save using the HB gives me more time for DE face shaving. I use a brush and one of my cheap shaving soaps (Williams, VDH Deluxe, Godrej puck, or an Erasmic stick that didn't work for my face). I often head shave in the shower, which doesn't take long, and so doesn't waste water, with the HB: wash scalp and face/neck, rinse, brush the shaving soap on scalp for a minute, wash the rest of me (letting the shaving soap soak in), quick shave wtg/atg/touch-ups with HB, and rinse scalp with cold water. Afterwards I do my usual post-shave routine but on my scalp: alum block, rinse after a minute or so, witch hazel, and apply my home-mixed oils (almond oil, grapeseed oil, and a bit of castor oil, lanolin, glycerin, and essential oils).

I use a Hoffritz Slant on my head, usually with a Derby or Atra blade. I use a brush and soap, whatever suits my fancy that day. MWF is often my fallback.

I rinse with cold water and apply aftershave.

It's been a while since I've had any irritation, but if I do I treat it just like my face. I run the alum block over the area. Like I said, that is very rare.

In the past I have used Cartridges and The Head Blade. For me, the slant is faster and more efficient with less irritation.

Gentlemen, a big thanks to all of you for your responses. It certainly points me in the right direction. I use a DE, brush and soap for my face but have always used a cartridge razor and canned goo for the head. It just seemed easier.

Its interesting that couple of you gentlemen use an aftershave or ASB on your heads. I will try it.

Thanks again.

I use the Wilkinson Sword/Schick Extreme 3 in the shower with a stick of Arko and no brush. I find carts to be much faster and more effective for head shaving than DE - the flexibility of cart blades lends itself better to head shaving than DE, imho. After showering I usually slap on a bit of witch hazel and that's it. I usually shave my head once every 3 days to prevent irritation

G'Day Gentlemen,

I got a few question regarding head shaving.

Do you use a DE or Cartridge to shave your head and why?
I use a 1955 Gillette Super Speed Flare Tip or a Merkur 1904 41c for a 2 pass shave + touch ups every day.

I was using a Mach 3 for years. I find that the M3 is still a bit faster, but the results from the DE razors are FAR superior - no irritation at all, and a BBS head & face until well into the evening. Well worth the extra few minutes.

Blades used are Derby, Gillette Platinum and Personna

Do you use your expensive creams and soaps or canned goo?
Gave up the goo when I learned to lather.
I'm currently bowl lathering Mama Bear's Spellbound Woods and Mysore Sandalwood as well as Van Der Hagen Deluxe.
I also have Trader Joe's Shave cream - no lather at all, but it is slick stuff! I sometimes use it on my second pass.

Whats your post head shave routine?
Cool water rinse, a small amount of Avon Skin So Soft oil or lotion to moisturize.

Appreciate some direction.

IMHO - Prep and lather are numbers one & two for a good shave.

Thanks mate. Really good pointers. I like the idea if Trader Joes Shave Cream. Appreciate your help.

prior to wetshaving I used a M3 for head + face shaving with canned soap

since discovering wetshaving I've migrated to headshaving with an Ever-Ready 1912 (SE). I don't headshave every day and only do so in the shower. occasionally I use a soap stick and brush but find it's easier to used the canned stuff on the head and rear neck.

post shave routine is the same as face - a 50/50 mix of witch hazel and aloe vera gel
