Need some advice

I've been using a cheap $5 boar brush from Wal Mart for the last 2-3 years. I want to buy a nice badger hair brush, but I have no idea which brands to stay away from. I want to spend $25 at most. I know this limits me to the lower end of the spectrum, but I just can't justify spending more than that amount on a shaving brush right now.

What do you guys recommend?

Why don't you go for a good Semogue boar as you will not find a badger brush that will compare to these for the price you are willing to spend. The 830, 620, 1305, or any of the other Semogues will be a giant step up from your current brush and it should last you a very, very long time. Good luck.

For $25 you can get the best of the best boar or an entry badger. Save a little longer and stick to your current brush (which probably outclasses most if not all sub $25 badgers) or go for a quality boar. Throwing $25 at a badger is a waste of money imo.

Very good advice above on all fronts.

Those vintageblades brushes have fantastic reviews.

Semogue brushes come very highly regarded.

I know you want a badger brush, but I recently found the awesomeness of a good boar. I can and will personally recommend the semogue 1305. It's relatively soft when broken in and the price is pretty darn goon. You can usually pick one up online for 20-25 bucks with free shipping!!! But as said before, if your dead set on a badger, just save for a little longer, and get something a little better. :001_smile

If you can wait until he restocks his knots, I recommend a whippeddog. I have 2 of them and they are fantastic brushes for the money. If you can live with a loft of 55 or so the brush will cost 26 delivered to your door. It's only 5 more dollars to have it drilled deeper, which is the route I took ( 50 loft )

Another option might be to find an old brush handle at swap meets, thrift stores and the like. Then order a TGN knot and do a restore.

For that budget you can get a 24mm knot Lijun shaving brush including delivery from China. Good back bone and builds a nice lather. Works with creams or soaps. That will give you a few years before your next purchase.

Try the Shea Moisture Shave Brush from Target. 10 bucks and a very very good first badger brush for the money.
