Need input on AOS starter kit brush

I have been told these things literally fall apart in a month (it is the cheap starter, plastic handle one with seams). Any truth to this? I am leaving the country for a few months soon. Will this be ok to take? I don't want to take my Edwin Jager one because the thought of something happening to it terrifies me (its my only brush I currently own). If the AOS one wont make it, what is a cheap badger brush that will survive at least a two month rugged trip (I was thinking the Tweezerman maybe?) Thanks.

It has to be badger? Get a boar if you're trying to save some money. Also, I'm confused. Do you own the AoS, or are you considering buying one. I wouldn't personally buy one. Buy something decent that will last. Why not pick up a travel brush from Crabtree and Evelyn? It's pure badger and floppy, but I face lather with mine when I travel and quite like it. Penworks also probably has some finest brushes in the $30-something range (before shipping). Use whatever you get for a while at home before your trip to make sure you don't have a shedder.

I got the full kit with the brush about a month ago. My brush loses a bristle or two each shave which I think is a bit much. In comparison, my cheap VDH boar brush loses quite a bit more so I dunno. I'm not an expert so I don't know what a "normal" rate would be.

Before I got the B&B LE 08 I used the AOS full size kit brush for two years with no problems, however I did lose a hair from time to time. In comparison the B&B Brush is so much more luxurious and would have not use the AOS brush since. I loved it so much I jumped on the LE09 brush.

If you plan on buying a AOS kit with the brush you will get your moneys worth.

I have the one from the full size kit and it is as good as any other quality badger brush. However, I have not heard the same about the cheaper one. I would steer clear. The full size one is still pretty reasonably priced, considering what you get.

I used the brush from the cheaper aos kit for 8-9 months. After about 9 months the plastic that secured the knot came apart from the handle.

I could still use it if i glued that back, it was a good excuse to upgrade though :thumbup1:.

Cool. And for those that asked, yes, I already own it. If it just makes it through this excursion for two months (which it sounds like it will) I will junk it afterward need be. I was just worried that it may fall apart before that......leaving me brushless:scared::scared:

I have used my AOS brush for about a year now mainly as my travel brush and it has held up really well! I keep it in a perscription bottle with a childproof lid when I travel to keep the hair straight.
Now all that being said I did buy one for my son when he started wet shaving and the entire knot fell out on the first use but I glued it back in and he has been good ever since.
I just dont like my nicer brushes banging around in my dopp kit when I travel!

I got the AOS starter kit. Well, first I got travel sized one in Las Vegas, then i got the "real" starter kit. The travel brush does fall apart, it loses hairs every other time you shave with it, but it gets the job done. I was pretty impressed with the "real" starter kit however. The brush is pure badger, I used it for about 6 months before getting a best without it wearing out, I still like to use it for soaps and face lathering. Imo, the "real" starter kit seems to be worth it if you like the other AOS products that come with it
