Need help with tto repair?

I have a 1937 Sheraton that the doors bind up when opening. The knob drops down approximately 1/8 inch and the doors bind. If you push up on the knob while turning, it will open a lot easier. I thought I remember someone referring to a thread on how to repair this issue however, that was before I acquired a razor that has this issue. It seems that my forum research skills are severely lacking.

Anyone able and willing to link me to information for this kind of repair. As always your help is greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you might be able to recrimp the barrel sleeve around the knob.

Can this model be re-crimped to keep the rod from dropping? If so, that is simpler than disassembly. http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...O-knob-on-Gillette-slim?p=4596220#post4596220 discusses this fix, as does http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/329976-Help-needed-with-a-Gillette-Aristocrat and http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/79803-Milord-with-problem?p=1047328#post1047328. Folks have re-crimped using everything from a custom-made tool to a butter knife.

If disassembly is needed, http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/151721-Gillette-Super-Adjustable-repair might help too.

Caution: Try this at your own risk.

I had the same thing happen to a 70's super speed. I learned this fix on another forum. First get one of the big black paper clips $paperclip.jpg. Take one of the ring (or lever or handle or whatever you want to call it) off. Get a pair of pliers. If I remember right, on the Sheraton there should be a smooth part on the handle above the TTO. Where the smooth part transitions into the knurling there should be an indent in the razor. Put the rounded part of the paper clip in the indent in the razor. Take your pliers and squeeze the end of the paper clip until it's snug. I was told not to squeeze the paper clip to tight or it could ruin the razor. Then turn your razor with the paper clip still on. This squeezes the metal in more which then stops the TTO from dropping. If your worried about damaging the plating try putting a piece of fabric over the razor before you put the paper clip on.

Like I said, this worked for me on an inexpensive razor I didn't care about. It may or may not work for you...so try at your own risk.

Further to my last post, here's a video of someone fixing it the way I mentioned, except I use the pliers on the other end of the paperclip to tighten the paperclip. This way you won't accidentally put tool marks on the razor
