Need help with complimenting my signature and only cologne

So I come before you fragrance aficionados for some help. Now first off I have been wanting to ask this for some time but was hesitant as I like to think a persons cologne of choice is sacred and it should not be shared among others if only to keep people guessing and intrigued. However since the internet is the ultimate shroud of anonymity and I'm stuck so I will let the secret out.

I use chanel egoiste platinum. I know a lot of people tend to say platinum is inferior to plain old egoiste but again I love it and it gets me compliments in close quarters.

I tend to use unscented products so not to clash but I think its time I help enhance the smell. I know chanel sells a moisturizer and deodorant in the same line but at $40 for a pop for a tiny stick of deodorant it is a bit steep and I would just go through it in no time. Same for the moisturizer. Base notes gives a list of notes and I tried finding products with that scent. The only thing I can find is cedar wood in everyman jack products. But my nose is not discerning enough to tell if one note can help the mash up of multiple notes a cologne carries.

P.S. Gents on the internet seem to say egoiste platinum is similar to abercrombie fierce for those not familiar with platinum egoiste's scent.

I doubt I will find the answer but would like to believe there are other platinum wears here on this forum who can shine some light.

I can tell you I try to go unscented with EVERYTHING so that it does not clash with my cologne.

-unscented deodorant
-unscented body moisture
-unscented body gel
etc
Sometimes it's hard to go unscented - such as with shampoo, but I try to get one that isn't overpowering.

I also go mostly unscented with everything except cologne. I say mostly because I use Trumper's Coral Skin Food, but the very light rose scent dissipates quickly so I don't think there's any scent left after a few minutes. I tried using Speick bath soap, but the scent was so strong it had a noticeable presence all day.

Good luck finding what you are looking for, and you are right, there will likely be some here who have already found it and can help you out.

So which unscented deoderant do people use. I stopped using antiperspirant because it left yellow stains. Can deoderant be unscented since it is suppose to mask the funk?

I use Mitchum unscented. The funk is caused by bacterial action and the little buggers love warm, dark, damp environments. Unscented deodarants work by reducing the bacterial growth and stopping the funk from forming rather than masking it.

Only Crystal Rock (or something similar) to my knowledge. Other than that, all deodorants have a scent. It is antiperspirants that are generally unscented.

What is body gel? I would have assumed it is just moisturizer but you listed body moisturizer above it.

Good plan. Unscented cologne is a rip-off, IMHO.

You're right. Other than alum crystal, every so-called unscented deo or antipers I've tried does actually have a scent, mild and neutral as it may be. I think some of them even list fragrance as an ingredient. But everything smells like something, has some sort of scent to it...

how much deodorant are you guys putting on??? I wear scented deodorant (lavender/cedar) and unless i take my shirt off and put my nose in my pit it doesn't smell at all.
I also use some pretty strong smelling sandalwood soap from whole foods...it's great stuff! my whole bathroom smells like it. I smell sandalwoody for maybe 15 minutes after a shower but then it's gone...and if not, most colognes would only be improved by a bit of extra sandalwood!

Your nose also gets fatigued after about 15 min of scent. But others should still be able to pick up on it.

nah...it's gone quickly...my girlfriend doesn't smell it and she gets really close :wink2:
i think most soaps don't leave behind a scent. Just like shaving soaps, the "soap" part washes the scent away...
speaking of that, I also use all kinds of scented shaving soaps, as i am sure most people here do, and scented after shaves. most of them fade quickly so unless i'm splashing on clubman there's no conflict with my cologne by the time I leave the house.

To your original question, sounds like you're looking for some variety, maybe you could just try getting some alternate colognes to wear every so often. switch things up a bit? maybe start with regular egoiste?

I've heard of the PE/Fierce comparisons, although I haven't smelled Fierce (intentionally). I have read that Dollar Tree carries a line of men's bodywashes/sprays that are of the "our version of..." family (I believe they are called Powerstick). They make one for Abercrombie Fierce. Other dollar stores may carry them, and my local Walgreen's has some of them, too. Might be worth checking into...

I've been using Alum for the past 36 years... no scent, no stains.

I never really thought about the soap aspect washing out the scent but it makes sense. My shower soap is those acne wash kind so the scent is an artificial chemical one. My guess is, its not perfumed at all. I shave before I shower so that never was an issue. My after shave consists of witch hazel and low SPF sunblock which i don't think has a scent you can pinpoint to something. I guess my shave shower routine leaves little if nothing behind. On the other hand my brother uses axe and oh boy does that body wash leave behind a scent. You can actually smell the trail of his movement if that makes sense. But I think that is made to perform that way and is saturated with perfumes.

Same here....but it is an antiperspirant, not a deodorant which I think he is looking for.

Yes definitely needs to be a non antiperspirant. The more natural deoderants I tried was not particularly good for me. Toms of Maine unscented deoderant made with hops went on frothy and I just did not feel clean when using it. I liked welda sage deoderant spritz bottle but it would only last 2 hrs or so, so I ended up carrying the glass bottle with me to reset.

But I will try the other suggestions listed above. Thanks everyone

I think you should just try Crystal Rock then. I am pretty sure that is what you are looking for.

I think the Egoiste will overwhelm the scent of most other products. Wouldn't worry about too much of a clash.

As a side note, I have tried a few deodorants matched to scents and have always found them sorely lacking.

I tend to use a lot of scented soaps, and just generally pick one that isn't at odds with the EdT of the day.
