Need Help To Decide - Can Only Afford One

I am wanting to get an ATT Atlas razor. I can't afford the 5 piece set so I am thinking the M1 or R1. The razors that I am liking the best right now are; (In no particular order) '34 Aristocrat, '37 Sheraton, 17mm SC New Deluxe and Pre-War Gillette Tech (triangular slot).

Based on my currant favorites, what do you think would be the better choice? The ATT M1 or the ATT R1.

Bill, I think the R1 is the obvious choice for you. It seems to me you like just a little more aggression, so I would be concerned that the M plate might be too mild for you. That's just my take based on reading your posts and listening to the things you have to say in other posts. The great thing about buying one of Stan's razors is the 30 day money back guarantee. If you get the R plate and just don't like it; it's too aggressive or whatever Stan will exchange it for the M plate no problem. No risk in that at all.

It would be a dream to have the 7 piece set, but no way is that affordable for me. I would just like to have one of the razors, like you. The 5 piece set would be a dream as well. My wife is talking to my dad and sister about going in on a set for me for Christmas, but I am not very comfortable with that. My wife thinks I need it but all I see is the other bills or necessities I could spend it on. We'll see.

Get the R plate. I bet you love it.

If you find yourself prone to razor burn, then I think I'd recommend the M1, but otherwise I think the R1 has a very natural feeling and offers a great combination of efficiency without much harshness. Also, you'd have to contact Stan to be sure, but I suspect if you try the R1 and find it too harsh, within the 30-day period they will likely happily swap it for an M1 plate.
