Need Help dating Milord

I'd really rather date Milady, but that's another thread.:001_rolle

I have this, I think, Milord. The center bar is un-notched, the smooth band has no writing and there are no endcaps.

It's my understanding that only the '41's had no encaps. But I also thought they had writing on the smooth band. This one doesn't have that.

My guess is either a '41 or a '46(?) or '47 with missing endcaps. There are no solder blobs and the ends are plated though.. Can any of you gurus help pin it down? I'd appreciate it.

I'm wondering about a '40? The guy I bought mine from said there was something in a book (Krumholz or other, I can't recall) about a small number being out in 1940. I'll have to research it a bit, hopefully I can find the notes (or better yet, someone has the info and posts it here!). But yes, AFAIK, a '46 should have end caps.

Yup, I didn't realize they changed toward the SS form factor so early on. Since it has no encaps, I'm going to call it a 41. I thought I saw a pic of a 41 with "Pat No. blah, blah" or something on the smooth band and I got the impression that there should be writing there. But it's not visible in the Wiki either.

Or maybe I've got a rare plain banded '40.

I can see no print down in the diamond well of the blade plate. That is like my Milord that I call a 41. I can not clearly see the band on the handle in your photo but you say there is no print, like a 46. If that is so, to have no print at all on the head or the handle suggests to me this most likely would occur at a time after the war when a prewar head was paired with a post war handle. Maybe endcaps were not online yet or maybe endcaps don't fit a 41 head....anyone here tried that yet?

I have a “46-47 Aristocrat” with a no print head like yours.

Also I have a “48-50 Aristocrat” (judging by the handle with one knurled band near the head), and that head is sporting an unnotched bar with end wings.

Your Milord is an interesting piece….oops….I mean, so how much do you want for that misfit?……LOL

I am in the same opinion as Tom. Maybe one of the first Milord´s after WWII with old head and new handle. I´ve never seen one like yours before. Good eyes and nice find!

Actually, there is print on the bottom of the head. Is that what you mean by in the "diamond well"? Or, do some of them have printing that can be read from inside the head, on the blade bed?
There is nothing on the smooth band of the handle. So, that indicates a '46?

the "normal" 46 Milord says inside the head "PAT.NOS.ON.PACKAGE". The 40 Milord has this written on the smooth band

O.K. Nothing inside the head, so it's not a '46. Nothing on the band, so it's not a '40. No endcaps, so it's not a 47. No notches, so it's not a '48.

Hi Pete,

My camera is not working currently, so I “borrowed” from another post.
This is the missing print.

Yeah, that's definitely missing on mine. It's neither on the smooth band or in the diamond well.

So, WTH do I have here? A '41 head on a '46 handle???

Or, is it the rare and elusive '45 model!!!:001_rolle
