What's new

Need advice for a probable Christmas Neighbor PIF.

I'm still a newb in this so I need some advice. My friend/neighbor came over the other day and was intrigued when he saw my razor and brush on my sink. We started talking and he is very interested in trying wetshaving. Anyways, his last name is Sparrow and because of "Pirates of the Caribbean" he kind of embraces the teasing that he gets. We were looking at stuff and he saw the Dreadnaught stuff (US equivalent of BBR) and really got excited. Anyways, his mom is interested in going in with me on a full kit for his Christmas present. I'm going to purchase the razor for him as a PIF/Christmas gift. However, I as a newb I need some feedback/advice. Has anyone used the Dreadnaught/BBR preshave, cream, and aftershave that comes with the full kit? Is it any good or should I put together stuff like I have for him to start with?

I kind of try to avoid setting up new guys with stuff that I haven't tried. That way you have hopefully experienced the same problems they are going to encounter. If he wants the Dreadnaught stuff, this could be the inspiration to get it yourself and try it, otherwise, I would stick with the same gear you have for now.

I would make sure you get him razor, blades, brush, soap, and an aftershave splash or balm. If the blades, soap and AS are something that can be sourced locally, so much the better. Otherwise he runs through what you gave him, can't find replacements, and gives it up.

I agree recommend only the items you have tried. I PIF'd items I used and can talk about. I do know of a place online to order items which deliver fast. If you desire to know send me a pm.

Thanks guys, I was sort of thinking the same thing too. I have a DE89 and as far as my research goes the head on the Dreadnaught razor is the same only laser etched so, I can get him one of those. I will also get him a blade sampler and then I'll pass the rest of the order list from my stuff on to his mom to get the preshave, cream, aftershave balm, and alum block. The nice thing is that he seems to have the same skin issues that I do so the T&H unscented stuff that I have should be nice for him also.

From what I've read, the Dreadnought cream is awesome stuff. But it's still on my wishlist of items I haven't tried, yet. So, I can't personally recommend it.

The T&H cream should be a nice start for him. I just ordered my first tub of 1805. Can't wait to try it!

Looks like you've got a sweet PIF for him! Great job!
