What's new

Need a good brush not to expensive.

Well I am new to the forum and need a good shave brush for not too expensive. I am still fairly new to wetshaving but had a shavemac silver tip that was lost in the move. I also lost a fat boy razor in the move and would love to find another one that is not too expensive. Prices on ebay for a fat boy are outragous.

Welcome mate.

You'll get a different response from everybody - so to help narrow down, a couple of questions.

What is 'not too expensive' to you?
Do you use mainly soaps or creams?
Do you bowl or facelather?
What about the shavemac did you like/dislike?

Well I use a bowl, or will again once I replace it. Lost all my shave stuff in the move. I loved my shavemac. One I had was kinda like this one but with silvertip http://www.shavemac.com/shop/produc...-22712.html&XTCsid=rlgqcsjp826spr9tae2jj0mtk1. At first I thought it was too small but I got used to it and worked really well. Ideally around 50.00 would be not too expensive, but I can adjust funds if needed. Having to buy all new stuff at once to get back into wet shaving. I also use creams and not soaps. Have not found a soap I really like.

How bout trying this one from Vintage Blades:

Rooney Style 3 "Special" - Faux Ivory - Pure Badger

RN090 - The Rooney Style 3 "Special" in faux Ivory is a brush made specially for Vintage Blades that is comparable in proportions to a standard Style 3 Size 1 (Small). It is a handmade brush with a lathe turned, hand polished handle and is filled with 100% Pure Badger.

Overall brush height: 96mm
Handle height: 50mm

$39.99

It seems like great value, though may not measure up to your lost brush.

Why is it so hard to find a brush I like the looks of? the brush I had and loved was this but with silvertip

I would love to find one like this but they are hard to find.

Kent has a a brush that resembles that, though I don't see any on Auravita's website. Otherwise, my recommendation would be the Kent BK2 or BK4.

Contact Shavemac and ask. Bernd made a brush for me that wasn't listed on his web page.

+1

From all I've read about Bernd, I can't imagine he'd have a problem swapping out silvertip hair into the brush you linked.

From one Shavemac fan to another, I know I don't have to sell on you on the Shavemac idea!

If that's too far to retool your expenditures, the Finest might work pretty well.

Finally, I think some of the US vendors still have Shavemacs on sale. Here's the 21 mm in Silvertip for < $77. Note: It's the plain handle, which might not work for you. But, it is the hair that you liked, for a price that's above your target, but within a much more reasonable adjustment range.

Finally, the Rooney is a wonderful brush, too; but, it's different: shorter, denser loft. I'd vote stretching to the $75 super hair if you can. If you spend about 15 minutes here, you'll pick up the vibe that we love our Rooneys around these parts...

Good luck!
