Need A Dense Luxurious Second Brush

Last year, for my first brush purchase, I was fortunate to take advantage of the Shavemac D01 group buy. Unfortunately, having the shavemac D01 as my first brush may have ruined me since I absolutely love the brush. Its very soft and luxurious while having a great backbone and is great for face lathering.

I would like to find a second brush that's very similar to my shavemac, 21mm knot but be in fan shape, instead of bulb. I've been looking at the Rooney 3/2 "Super" for several weeks but have not been able to pull the trigger. I also thought of buying Kim Son handle and having it shipped to Shavemac for a D01 knot. Is there another brush out that that's as dense and luxurious as D01 with a fan shape? Budget is $100-150 but would like to stay closer to $100 if possible.

rooney is your best bet in your price range.
I thought I read that Bernd uses the kimson horn handles so not really a need to go the roundabout way to get a DO1 knot in a horn handle.
BTW there is one on the BST right now, the seller said he doesn't know if it's DO1 or not, but it looks like it is to me (looks very similar to my D01 Knotted SM)

I saw the Shavemac on BST and was tempted but I really want something in a fan shape.

Ahh, I forgot the bit about the fan shape, then again I would suggest a rooney. You will probably be fine with the regular line, as if you like the softness/flowthrough of the SM D01, you might find the heritage line too stiff/dense for your liking.

I recently purchased a 24mm "finest" silvertip Thäter. Not sure if any of them are the shape your are looking for. Soft brush, but still has lots of backbone to it(i lather mwf no problem)

A Rooney Heritage would be great - I've been using a Beehive for a few months and have been more or less ignoring my other brushes.

You might also want to look at the Simpson Chubby 1 and the Ehsan.

I'm not a fan of any of the Heritage styles, except the Alibaba but it doesn't come in faux horn. I was thinking that if I were going to pay in $150 range, I would get a Shavemac D01 genuine horn.

I didn't mention earlier but I would prefer the handle to be a faux or genuine horn, any shade of dark brown.

Is Simpson now made by Vulfix?

I'm not familiar with the Simpson 2 or 3-band Super...who has the best selection and do they come in faux horn or tortoise?

They only come in the single color faux ivory. The one exception is the Limited edition Astor brush that comes in faux horn.
Westcoastshaving, Bullgooseshaving, and em's place all stock most of the Simspons brushes, the CH1 or CH2 might be a good fit for you, but costwise again I think Rooney wins.

I'm seriously thinking about ordering another custom Shavemac D01 or super silvertip in the fan shape with Brown Horn handle. And I like that I can personalize the brush with my name engraved on the handle.
