Neck Irritation not caused by Shaving but Collars?

As a Pastor, I make sure I have a good irritation free shave on Sundays. The past two Sundays, I have had a great shave with Arko/Proraso Red super lather.

I wait and hour before I put on my shirt and tie.

After an hour or two in the shirt there is bad irritation all over my neck. It is not the shave and it seems to be happening just these last two Sundays.

I use Thayers WH and an AOS or QCS after shave balm post shave.

Any ideas? My technique is light and gentle, just puzzled.

Yep I cant shave close on my neck. If i do it looks like I ran through a briarpatch. One pass with a little touch-up is all I can get away with. Ive never tried talc though. Hmmmmm?

I have a similar issue with wool had a great shave put on a wool scarf and within the 10 minutes it took me to back out of my driveway and get on the expressway my neck was red and itching like crazy. I'm not allergic, worn wool sweaters and scarfs for the last ten years, think my pores were still open and the fibers irritated the crap otta them. I never thought about talc, how do you guys work the talc with colors, won't transfer to everything? Don't exactly want to go around looking like Tony Montana at the end of Scarface

Thank you for all the replies. As far as the shirts and detergent, they are normal and unchanged. So how does one go about apply Talc? Can you where other shirt colors than white?

The color of the shirt should not matter, but I would apply the talc before donning the shirt.

Sprinkle a little talc on a cloth, and use the cloth to spread the talc onto your skin. You only need a little. Use another cloth to even out any visible patches. It should be more or less invisible after application, but you should feel a difference.

Another way to do it is to transfer an ounce or two of talc into a clean, dry sock. You can apply the talc right through the fabric, and keep the sock in a ziploc bag between uses. This is handy for travel.

If it works out, look into talc that matches up with any other scents you might wear: I have Pinaud Clubman, D.R. Harris Arlington, and TOBS Mr Taylor in my arsenal.

I apply talc with a Marvy neck duster. I think I picked it up at a Sally Beauty Supply for $10. Sprinkle some Clubman on the top of the bristles and lightly apply to the neck.

Good advice from mblakele.

I've never had any problems with my white talc and any colored shirts.

You can apply it has he recommended, but I just sprinkle a bit into my hand over the sink, get some on the tips of my fingers and rub it over my lower neck. It goes on a bit heavy this way, so as he recommended I then take a dry towel to even it out. Its not visible after this step.

Make sure your neck is dry (or as dry as possible at this point) before applying or it may clump up or go on thicker than desired.

You should be able to pick up some Clubman at a drugstore or Sallys to see if its your thing. If so, then branch out and get some in different scents online.

Got a large red patch on my neck just near the collar line. And yes it came from my oxford shirt collars. I do believe ATG just makes matters worse. I've been using WTG passes on that area for a week and have noticed the redness going away. Also, the suggestion of using talc is helpful.

Musgo a/s is great for the collar rub, it works well, or lucido, high glycerin?

Be careful not to sweat, or rub..... so, talc may work, but I never used it.

Goodluck
