Nava Grand Slam on 1st MLB Pitch!

What an incredible story! This kid bounced around, undrafted, ended up in an Indie league where the Sox bought his rights for $1 in 2008.

He worked his way through the Minor League system, ending up at AAA Pawtucket where he was just called up to replace Ellsbury who is on the DL.

He's already in awe, being called up to the Majors, looking for his parents in the stands. Batting 9th, he gets ready to look at his first MLB pitch with the bases loaded. No pressure there, right? The experienced pitcher knows it's Daniel Nava's first ever at bat in the big leagues, figures he'll swing at the first pitch, and tries to throw a sinker that will result in a DP. But that ball didn't sink until it hit the Red Sox bullpen!

What a debut for a guy that no one wanted.

Go Red Sox!

I love stories like this. Kid comes out of nowhere, unknown, unhyped, gets an incredible chance to play in the big leagues, even if only for a short while and boom! First pitch, and he's made history.

I'm sure it was even sweeter for him, knowing that his parents were there in the stands to see it with his dad taping it. And if that wasn't enough, he hit a double later in the game, so he's batting .500.

gotta be happy for the kid, even if he's playing for the sox :tongue_sm. I remember when Kevin Kousmanoff hit one in '06 in the same fashion. I couldn't believe it then, I really can't believe it happened again. That's such a cool notch on your belt.
