What's new

Nancy Boy's Signature cream...wow!

I had never ordered anything from Nancyboy before but I just did recently in order to get some gifts for my lady. I ordered her some shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, after sun balm and some face wash for myself. After I received the order...lo and behold I received a free travel size of their Signature shaving cream.

I suppose they must know how great this stuff is since they included it for free. Must have simply noticed that a guy was ordering it and they know anyone will be sold on this stuff after one use.

Anyway I used it with my last shave and I loved it. Only been using Tabac since I received it as a gift from my lady about 6 months ago so this stuff was a great way to switch it up.

I had a great shave, TONS of lather, and I absolutely love that signature smell.

Any of you fellas recommend any of their other stuff that carries the signature scent? Any other products with that smell would likely be win.

I heard the bath soap in their signature fragrance is absolutely the bomb.

I ordered the hair gel, and while the scent is nice, I don't really like it much; so maybe steer away from that one.

You might check out their aftershave gel in the Signature Scent. The scent notes are balanced a little differently in the gel than in the cream, with the lavender note a bit more dominant in the gel; functionally it is quite good, and is a great way to finish off a shave with the NB cream. They also make a shampoo, conditioner, bath soap and shower gel in the signature scents. Again, the notes tend to be balanced slightly differently in all of these.

Their facial cleanser, which is completely unscented, is also great; it happens to be the only one I use.

The shaving cream is a very decent performer. I'd probably love it if I were going brushless and using an old cartridge razor, but it just doesn't suit my fancy for shaving with a straight. I second the aftershave gel in signature. Moisturizes than a plain old aftershave balm, but without being greasy or leaving your face feeling sticky.

Signature is just an average scent to me, but I like it better than cucumber. Sweetgrass, however..... yowsa! That's my favorite smell out of all the Nancy Boy stuff.

If you were going brushless? NB cream isn't a brushless cream from what I know..at least I haven't tried that. I have been using my brush just as I would with anything else and it works great..the smallest amount of cream gives me gobs of lather.

Looks like I will have to try their ASB and perhaps a few others. Thanks for the recs. Maybe I will order their soap and ASB.

***EDIT***
I did actually get myself a travel size of their unscented mild facial cleanser..and as someone already mentioned this stuff is great. Leaves my skin feeling clean but not unnecessarily dry. Will likely stick with with that stuff.

They market their shaving cream as brushless, but many on B&B (myself included) have had excellent results using a brush with it. I'm interested in trying more of their products, I'll have to drop by their store in the city next time I'm there.

It's kind of an interesting story how the NB cream came to be perceived as "brushless." Technically, it's not brushless. The base ingredients in the NB cream are the same as in any other lathering cream, so it is inherently able to be lathered with a brush. However, the guys who founded Nancy Boy didn't (and don't) use shaving brushes, and never took shaving brushes into account when they designed the cream. It's just a happy accident they used ingredients that make the cream brush-compatible. Their usage instructions and general marketing seem to stick with the belief that most people will be using the cream without a brush, so it lends to the belief that the cream is intended to be brushless. However, they also acknowledge in the usage instructions that it can be used with a brush, while recommending this website (along with ShaveMyFace) as a place to get better info on how to do it.

NB shaving cream is very good. I just don't care for their signature scent. I love lavender and I love mint, but I cannot abide the two mixed. I do love their "invigorating" body wash, though.

I was in the Hayes shop a week ago, picking up some laundry soap and ASB. I noticed the brush in their shaving gift set, and asked the gent behind the counter about this in light of the "brushless" cream. He said that while you can use the cream brushless, he himself prefers to use a brush. I allowed that this was also my preference.

But when he admitted that he didn't know anything about the brush on the shelf - it was one of those inverse two-bands with black-tips and a light base - I lost control. He became the involuntary audience of one at an impromptu lecture on the varieties and characteristics of badger, boar, and horse brushes. I may not be welcome there again.

Surely he knew the job was dangerous when he took it?

I dunno...Nancy Boy fell into the wetshave game sort of by accident. I don't think they ever intended to cater to our somewhat obsessive crowd, although I'm sure they're happy to get our business. But the workaday folks in the shop, selling skin care products, potpourri and pottery? Yeah, you probably blindsided him.
