Name That Tune

You know that show, the one where you bet that you can name a song given "X" notes. What songs are so instantly identifiable to you that you just know what it is after only a note or three? It could be your favorite song, or one that for some reason just stuck in your head. I'm confident about a few songs, but the one on which I'd bet the house is Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'". It's not my favorite by a long shot, but that first chord is unmistakeable.

"Free Fallin'" and "Watchtower" are instantly recognisable to me, too. "Hotel California" by The Eagles and "Come Together" by The Beatles are a couple that come to mind.

Probably thousands of songs. "Gimme Shelter" by the Stones, leaps to mind for some reason. Probably, aside, from Hendrix and the Beatles, lots of Stones and Who cuts. Lots of Motown and Stax cuts.

Just one note. The bell that opens Jay and the American's Cara Mia. Yeah, I'm on the much older side, but there are so many hits from that era that I can name in just one, two, or three notes.

The Beatles ... Help.

It works even better if they play the actual song and not just someone at the piano, of course, what with the name of the song in the first note.

(Watch the video, BTW ... it's great. Obviously some gimmick that the lads have a hard time staying motivated for ... and Ringo is left to just hold the umbrella.

Here's another that's a dead giveaway right from the first guitar twang, even if you take the airplane sound out ...

Prince - I would die 4 U. Actually, I could name loads of Prince songs off just the first note haha. Kavinsky - Nightcall is fairly distinctive even before the first note. Al Green - Love and Happiness. Something funky about that first arpeggio. The first note of November Rain always lets me know I'm in for a treat.

Looks like you and I had the same thought. Glad I got in just under the wire.
