Ah, I think you are right.Almost certainly a charnley forest, they were often shaped like this and glued in with a variety of different adhesives.
That is going to be a PITA to lap....

What the heck is this? From the box it seems old, and was held in by some sort of hard clay.
the stone is thin, and has a green tinge, with some reds.
weird.

Yep. Started with two sheets of 80 grit, and got it flat (it was fairly flat already, luckily) and got the gouges 90% out, then 120 grit for a sheet until it was all smooth, and chamfered the edges a little, then a sheet of 600 to remove the visible scratches.Nice! Was that all on wet n dry? (Dare I ask how long/how many sheets...)
It was probably about an hour job, all up. And I spent a bit of time cleaning up the inside of the box from all the old oil gunk.Nice! Was that all on wet n dry? (Dare I ask how long/how many sheets...)

It's about 205mm long, and 40mm in the middle. That's not too bad, nice work! They are pretty aren't they
What dimensions is it btw? Bit tricky to tell from here...
The one in the box looks like a hard ark, possibly a white hard once it's cleaned up. I finally got a full ark progression down and the grey hard have their place in it. Putting a fine hard washita in the mix was the game changer, i was able to set a belvel with it. Then grey hard, white hard(translucent) , true translucent and i polish with an old norton 4x2 translucent slip stone. Worked brilliantly. I don't know **** it took so long to try the washita, i was kinda scared it would eat a razor so i used a beater. No chips under the loupe, and it only sounded rough a couple strokes(not as bad as my 3k synth everyone) and then it got kinda glassy feeling, even after cleaning and re- oiling, i think i was just done. After 10 more strokes it would loudly ttt. Here's a lot of four stones I hope will prove a nice pickup at a bit under $20 Aus per stone. I don't have these yet, but I'm impatient, so anyone got any thoughts? There's a Pike 'Handihone', I hope the one in the middle may be a Washita, and if I'm lucky the dark one might be a Turkish or possibly a black ark, but very tricky to tell here. Light grey one in the box I'm pretty lost on, maybe an ark of some kind...?

I got a pretty big primitive cut translucent that looks grey like that if it's not in really bright light. I bought these today. Im curious to see what they are, iim not holding my breath though.Yeah - that's the only thing I could think of for the grey one, I'm fairly sure it's not a white/trans though. It'd be a slightly strange set of stones to find here, if they are what I've guessed. But I certainly wouldn't be complaining!

Bonus: I also got these recently, but they aren't here yet. Black one is a synthetic combo, i think the one on the left is a hindostan. Ive never even see one before soo....

The big one is almost square. Crazy looking pieces, I'm down to try anything i got a place for it.Honestly reddish looks like a crazy coticule pattern to me, but a modern ark with enough blur in the pictures we can't see the texture makes sense too. Were there no side pics in the listing? That'd tell you really fast what it is.
First bunch all look like slates that were left soaking in dirty oil for a few decades.
