"Look what I found"
Found this stone at an antiques store in Vermont. I have no idea what it is. It's very hard, 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 1" with a slight greenish tinge. Any ideas are welcome. View attachment 1047735View attachment 1047736View attachment 1047737

I have one similar that I consider a Vermont green. This one is a VG finisher. A bit bigger than yours, 6 x 2.5

Just picked this up on the bay. Fox razor hone. Looks purple/brown with banding and it has some sparkling going on. First razor I touched up on it passed my hht. Haven’t tried the shave yet. Small stone, maybe 4 x 1. Slurries like a bbw, but doesn’t look/feel like one.

I also guess Lorraine. It should finish shave wise similar to a Coticule but they generally leave a shinier bevel. Neat stone.

HI

I grabbed this covered in oil. It was almost black so I soaked it for months and months.
1. ON the fine side it says " please..."
2. On the end there is a circle stamp and "Belgium"

It seems synthetic. I have wondered what it is for a while, perhaps some of you know?!

Thank you

I can just barely make out, “Please stop soaking me!”
It’s definitely a synth but I’m not sure what.

Definitely synthetic, does not look like a "razor" stone.

Any insight about this guy? The first is half wet half dry. Tried getting photos that might help identify, but forgot to get a full dry one of the “smooth”side

"Look what I found"
This came from this morning’s market. A stone that measures 2x5x5/8 in a box with a MOP inlay on the sliding lid. It’s hard and dense like a Ark but has the hand feel and surface scratches of a Thuri. It is very fine with little sensation of grit. Has a heavy bevel on the edges, top and bottom. There is a pair of chipouts on corners that does not look to be a slate. Even surface color and texture, no specks, sparkles or veins. Interesting little hone

looks quite
It is a fun stone to play with. It’s not in my top ten, but it will give up a comfortable edge using oil and a gentle touch
For me, honing is more than just getting a perfectly sharp edge. Sometimes I enjoy the feeling and pattern of a stone as much as a very sharp edge. This beatiful stone, I'm sure, would be enjoyable to hone with.
