Myatt Daymark Proper Vintage Shaving

I just acquired this lovely 1930's Daymark set - Art Deco to the max!

The cap pegs are wider and elongated hexagons so Gillette style blades don't fit properly (you can force them but it's very hit and miss).

Luckily I have some 1930's NOS GBS and Ocean blades which are designed to "fit almost all three peg razors" including the Daymark.

And check out the crazy baseplate:

In another thread somebody said this razor looks as if it was designed by Salvador Dali, and it's certainly got some extreme 1930's style to it, including the metal box with the curved lid.

This looks like it could be an intense shave.
Has anybody else had experience with a Daymark?

Witterm solved the blade compatability problem - just use an Old Type cap instead of the Myatt cap and standard DE blades will fit.

I just shaved with one few days ago.
I just shove a blade like in the pics in this thread

Didn't even think to try a different cap (How I don't come up trying these simple things?:bored:)
Just tried with a cap from cheap Maggard's head. Perfect fit!
I wonder how it will shave now.

This one is one of my favorites, I shave with a bulldog handle and it's one of the smoothest and efficient razors I've got.
Rare, but now and than comes up in E-bay, and in a cheap price.

Just made a search:
Sold in a good condition more than 200$ here:blink::

By the pictures in the earlier thread, I think shoving a modern blade into the head probably results in enough blade curvature to make the razor shave more harshly than it needs to.

I would definitely use a different cap. Looks like it is designed to be rather mild, rather than aggressive, provided the blade is seated properly. Kind of a cool baseplate design; meant to allow the "smoothness" of a safety bar but the flow-through of an open comb, is my best guess.

Hold the phone! Here's the all aluminium Myatt Universal Safety Razor:

Same cool baseplate but, prefiguring Witterm's genius idea, the OEM aluminium top cap is a standard one meaning this razor will accept all blades.

And this razor is so light.

I had a military issue Myatt DE that was all aluminium too and it shaved like a bakelite so I wonder how this Myatt Universal beauty will perform!

Thanks! And the Myatt Universal turns out to be a very nice shaver.
Considerably more aggressive than a NEW, very smooth and manoeuvrable.
A real pleasure to shave with:
