Sounds like you have a bad solder joint or two in there. I had a schizophrenic clock in my older RX-7, so I opened it up and reflowed the solder joints. (I fiddle with electronics as a hobby.) After, it was perfect. Also, heat causes parts to expand and move, which can cause or seemingly solve the problem.
Though I don't recommend this for your TV. There are probably a couplemthousand solder joints and it would take awhile to go through, short of diagnostic tools.
As much as I hate to say it, a new TV would be the easiest solution.
However, don't smash the old one. Put it up on Craigslist with an honest description and get a few bucks for it. Someone could probably use the parts or be inclined to fix it.
