My Shavemac Order-Suggestions/Advice

I finally got an e-mail reply from Bernd at Shavemac about the brush that I wanted them to make for me.

I just started DE shaving about a month ago and at that time I bought a basic Omega brush (#63162, pure badge, knot = 21, loft = 52 mm). Its a good basic brush but I'm looking for something with a little more backbone and a bit more scritchy. I currently use creams but I wanted a brush that I could also use for soaps and for face lathering. So I did a bit of research and asked Bernd if he could make the following brush for me:

Handle: 173 in brown-beige color
knot = 19 mm
loft = 45 mm
bulb shape with 2 band D01 hair

He said it'll take about 8-12 days and he would send me a link to the order page. So before I pull the trigger I wanted to get some input from members with more experience with using a brush. What do you think?

Thanks,

That sounds like a great brush to me, Dennis. I briefly owned one of the D01s from the B&B Group Buy, and I believe the dimensions were fairly similar to yours though the loft may have been a couple mm longer. The D01 was incredibly dense, and the short loft made it perfect for soaps and creams. I do not think you will be disappointed.

I presume you have read through the Brush Forum and all of the various Shavemac and D01 threads? I know there are plenty offering perspective on knot size, loft size, bulb shape, etc.

Following is a link to a poll when the D01s were being ordered. At the end you can see some photos of the brushes people selected: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=78738

19mm bulb might be a bit "pointy" especially at 45mm, it won't splay out much if any. I would consider more of a fan shape, but it's your brush, do as you please, that's the beauty of a custom brush.

@ poonjaji - Thanks. I didn't see that one during my research.

@ superbleu - Good points and I'm glad that you pointed that out because that is what I'm after. I was hoping someone would see that too. If it doesn't work out, maybe the next time I'll either try the fan or a flattop with a 20-21 mm knot and about 47-48 mm loft.

@ malocchio - Good point too. I have a 21 mm knot now and I think its a just a tad bit too big for my ugly mug.

Thanks. Now its up to Bernd to send me the order link. Hopeful one of many brushes to come.

Sounds like a fine brush and you have a good idea what you want. Seems like you've started a trend ambrose with the 173 handle with it being considered in this one and xivex's thread as well! :lol::thumbup1:

I would change the bulb shape to fan shape.

However, if he has already started making the brush for you, I believe it would be rude to ask for a different one.
