My second STAR shave

Second shave just finished. First was yesterday (see Inaugural STAR thread).

Suffered razor burn and some nicks, but got a closer shave. I now know it's NOT my razor, or even my technique, but the Caswell-Massey soap. I have to repeatedly go over certain ares because the soap drys and cracks within a minute. I was fortunate to get the lather to remain wet and thick on my face in most areas, however.. And, of course, in the areas where it had dried up, and I re-applied, I suffered the most burn.

My feel for the frame, and technique vastly improved (I thought about how to improve all last night).

Although I know it's not the razor, I feel like it's getting an unfair introduction due to the poor soap quality. I just can't spring for a better soap right now--wish I could. I'm really interested in trying the Wool Fat soap.

BTW, I saw stars when I tapped on the aftershave. WOW

Thanks for looking!
John

Poor excuse for a soap the Caswell-Massey. I believe they have reformulated. I had such a bad experience, I won't give them a second chance. See if you can buy an inexpensive cream locally like CO Bigelow (Bath and Body Works), Kiss My Face (Grocery Store), or Real Shave Company (Rite-Aid) to save tour face and tide you over until you can purchase a soap or cream you might like. These may not be the best products but are available for $5-$10 are better than average. You can even get Williams at the grocery store for $1 which is better than Caswell-Massey.

I live in Manhattan, and bought the soap at C.O. Bigelow before asking you guys on the forum. They had Williams, and I asked the salesman if it were any good, and he pushed me toward Caswell-Massey. He knew I didn't know much, but still...

I'll pick that up and use CW in the shower, lol

Thanks!

+1 on the VDH. A stellar performer, especially considering the bargain basement pricing. Once you get some good lather going, you'll be pleasantly surprised how well a Star whacks them whiskers!
