What's new

My Restore Project (Gillette Flare Tip Superspeed)

Bought this for $7.00 On ebay.
Today It Came In The Mail, It Looked Like This Before I Cleaned It:

Underside of the head: It Had Green Corrosion On It, And Was dirty (Like the rest of the razor).

It Looked better after it was cleaned, Would probably look better if i had some polish.
there are a few spots on the top of the head I couldn't get out, And I Need To Do A Little More With the handle, But I think it's shave ready.
I did notice a Little gap when the silo doors are closed, but I don't think it will be a problem when I go to use it. (wouldn't mind fixing it though, But I'm not doing it myself)
Note: the following pictures are of the cleaned razor

There Is A small amount of brassing on the bottom of the head.

All in all Its not perfect, but I like It.
I'm sure it will be a nice little shaver.

Those Super Speeds always seem to clean up really well. I've had a couple that I didn't have much hope for and they turned out looking almost new.... and then I've had a couple that I thought would clean up really good and turned out they had some pitting on the doors or something like that. Either way, they've all ended up shaving awesome. Nice job.

What did you use to clean it? I have a line on one that has similar "patina." I'm hoping it cleans up as well as yours did.

As long as it doesn't have a lot of pitting and rust, most vintage razors are pretty easy to shine up nicely. Great job.

1. Hot Water And Baking Soda
2. A Cup Of Diluted Rust And Calcium Remover I bought at Dollar Tree.
3. A Brass Brush i bought at Walmart (Came In A Pack With A Nylon And A Stainless Steel Brush)
4. Toothpaste and a toothbrush (I Used It Twice, and rinsed of course.)
5. I Then dipped it in alcohol for a few seconds.

Hope This Helps You.

Try some Barkeeper's Friend. It may improve the head a little more from where you're at with it now. Don't be afraid to apply pressure as you give it a good scrubbing, it will not scratch.
