What's new

My New Year's purchase. A Somerset ?

I was browsing the newly listed offerings on the auction site and found a razor I could have an interest in. I then checked the sellers other items and found this beauty. It's a good thing I checked because it was listed under Antiques-silver and would not have shown up in my search. It had a reasonable bin price and was described as showing no signs of wear at all. I'll find out next week.

I think the razor is a New Improved Somerset in gold. Can anyone verify the case has the Somerset pattern? I can't find a photo.

I know the Somerset only in this case. What says the inside of the case?

Achim, The case inside top isn't shown but the seller says it doesn't tell the model. I will have to wait.

But I do recall some time ago someone bought a set like this and it might have included the shipper. But I can't find the thread.

I think, it must say "Somerset":

I think that is called the Norfolk

There is no question that the pattern on the case is the same as the Norfolk. However that's where the similarity ends.

The Norfolk was sold as either a New De Luxe or a New with common handle. Both my razor and the one that Scottydoint has in the thread I added the link for has the New Improved Tuckaway type.

The Norfolk case was lined with purple velvet. Both Scotties and my case is bright red.

If the set is really a New Improved Norfolk I can't find any documentation to verify it. I suppose Gillette could have made some sets like that but it has to be rare.
