What's new

My new SimFix Snaefell 2-Band Silvertip arrived today - pic heavy post.

So my new SimFix Snaefell 2-band Silvertip just arrived today !

Must say that shipping cost was a bit steep - but WoW, it only took 2 days from the UK to Denmark, that's fast.

I have not cleaned the brush yet, so of course have not tested it, but had to make this post of my initial impression on this special edition Simpson-Vulfix brush.

It simply just screams high quality. It was packed in the usual cardboard box with the Simpson logo on and stating it is a 2-Band Super on the outside.
But this box was wrapped in anohter larger cardboard box, which then again came wrapped in cardboard like paper - very solid rapping in my view.

And the brush.......it screams high quality of wonderful craftsmanship

As said I have not even tested this brush yet, but my initial impression is just WoW......amazing handle, very weighty and solid - and the 2-band Silvertip hair are in a very nice bulby shape, though narrower than a regular bulb, which 2-Band and Manchurian hair often tend to be.

I already own the Duke 3 in 2-Band Silvertip and the Chubby 2 in 2-Band Silvertip and when I feel and look at the hair knot in the SimFix Snaefell brush, it sort of places itself just in the middle between the Duke 3 and the Chubby 2 regarding density of hair.
But if I were to judge it based on how solid it feels in my hand - it's up there with the Chubby 2 - the handle feels extremely sturdy, weighty and oozes high quality :001_cool:

The loft of the brush is 55 mm offcially stated on the Simpson website and it looks to be just that - 55 mm loft.
The knot width officially is 26 mm - and they are right on. I measured it to be 27 mm.

This sort of places this brush just in the middle of my Duke 3 2-Band and my Chubby 2 2-Band - but with a bit more loft.

I facelather exclusively, and I hope the 2-Band will create enough backbone for it not to be too floppy and soft for facelathering creams.
I'm almost sure it will perform great. The 2-band hair looks really really good - in fact perfect

I will comment on how the brush performs and take some pics of the brush once I have rinsed and soaked it in water and compare it to my Duke 3 2-band and Chubby 2 2-Band in a matter of a couple of days.

Snaefell specs:
Knot: 26 mm
Loft: 55 mm
Handle: 48 mm
Hair type: 2-band Silvertip (Super 2-Band Simpson)

Here are some initial pics of this very nice brush:

A mugshot with my not yet used Shavemac D01 2-band Silvertip 233 Bruyers Wood brush and my not yet used Mühle Stylo Thuja Wood STF brushes (have a pending order for a new 3-Band Silvertip knot for the Mühle Stylo brush, interchanging the knot is VERY easy in this brush - just unscrew and insert new knot and tighten the knot by hand):

I've been very curious about these brushes. Can't wait to read about your experiences after its gotten some use.

Looks to me like a Duke 3 two band with a nice handle

As said above I own both the Duke 3 in 2-band and Chubby 2 2-band, and this falls just in between the 2.
It's definitely more dense than my Duke 3 2-band. I will post a comparison pics of the Duke 3, Snaefell & the Chubby 2 tomorrow :001_cool:

Claus, i smile each time i see one of your new brushes , as I am reminded of your posting a few weeks ago (I think about Semogue LE) that you were only trying to get 10 good brushes and that would be it. So, are you up to 20 yet :biggrin1:

cheers, beautiful brushes btw - enjoy

Great looking brush Claus! let us know how it performs along with your d01 2 band

Will do so my friend, will use it for this mornings shave.

woah, nice!!

Thanks :001_cool: !

I'm ordering one...

I don't think you will be disappointed - wonderful heavy solid handle, wonderful shaped dense 2-band knot.

Simply Beautiful...

Thanks you, Sir :cool2:

Yeahhh……this SBAD is taking over, I got to stop soon - but as long as I see new brushes that I just got to have, I will try to get hold of them and add them to my growing collection.
But as said, once my collection reaches 20-25 brushes, and I have to dust them off before I shave with them, it's time to stop collecting… isn't it ?

Does it have the logo on both sides or is the other side blank?

No, Sir. Only logo on one side.

That's a beautiful knot. I've been hovering over the Simpson site looking at the three Simfix offerings and I understand the Simpson and Vulfix collaboration but I'm wondering where the Simfix product line fits in? Is it going to expand into a full blown product identity? Deep thoughts over a shaving brush! One way or the other a lovely brush!

Thanks

I wonder about that too. My guess is that they will stay as a limited edition and only if they sell like hot cakes will they consider releasing it as a self established brand IMHO

+1, that hair is shaped perfectly! Should be a joy to use.

Hope so & expect so - will test it out this morning.......

Will report bach here in this thread in 1-2 days with my experiences....

Not used to not seeing the usual dirty yellow of Simpson...

Thanks.

Great looking brush. I'm excited for you. Thanks for the photos.

You're welcome !

Probably the most beautiful knot I have ever seen here!!!

Thanks, and I agree. The knot is very well curved.......ehhhh....well shaped, well you know what I mean

You're making this hard on me! I keep fighting the urge to buy a Simfix. Keep looking at the Pearlescent Manchurian! But I have plenty of Manchurian. I should really try something else, lol.
