So my new SimFix Snaefell 2-band Silvertip just arrived today !
Must say that shipping cost was a bit steep - but WoW, it only took 2 days from the UK to Denmark, that's fast.
I have not cleaned the brush yet, so of course have not tested it, but had to make this post of my initial impression on this special edition Simpson-Vulfix brush.
It simply just screams high quality. It was packed in the usual cardboard box with the Simpson logo on and stating it is a 2-Band Super on the outside.
But this box was wrapped in anohter larger cardboard box, which then again came wrapped in cardboard like paper - very solid rapping in my view.
And the brush.......it screams high quality of wonderful craftsmanship
As said I have not even tested this brush yet, but my initial impression is just WoW......amazing handle, very weighty and solid - and the 2-band Silvertip hair are in a very nice bulby shape, though narrower than a regular bulb, which 2-Band and Manchurian hair often tend to be.
I already own the Duke 3 in 2-Band Silvertip and the Chubby 2 in 2-Band Silvertip and when I feel and look at the hair knot in the SimFix Snaefell brush, it sort of places itself just in the middle between the Duke 3 and the Chubby 2 regarding density of hair.
But if I were to judge it based on how solid it feels in my hand - it's up there with the Chubby 2 - the handle feels extremely sturdy, weighty and oozes high quality
The loft of the brush is 55 mm offcially stated on the Simpson website and it looks to be just that - 55 mm loft.
The knot width officially is 26 mm - and they are right on. I measured it to be 27 mm.
This sort of places this brush just in the middle of my Duke 3 2-Band and my Chubby 2 2-Band - but with a bit more loft.
I facelather exclusively, and I hope the 2-Band will create enough backbone for it not to be too floppy and soft for facelathering creams.
I'm almost sure it will perform great. The 2-band hair looks really really good - in fact perfect
I will comment on how the brush performs and take some pics of the brush once I have rinsed and soaked it in water and compare it to my Duke 3 2-band and Chubby 2 2-Band in a matter of a couple of days.
Snaefell specs:
Knot: 26 mm
Loft: 55 mm
Handle: 48 mm
Hair type: 2-band Silvertip (Super 2-Band Simpson)
Here are some initial pics of this very nice brush:
A mugshot with my not yet used Shavemac D01 2-band Silvertip 233 Bruyers Wood brush and my not yet used Mühle Stylo Thuja Wood STF brushes (have a pending order for a new 3-Band Silvertip knot for the Mühle Stylo brush, interchanging the knot is VERY easy in this brush - just unscrew and insert new knot and tighten the knot by hand):
