What's new

my new M&F 2XL finest

feels much much smaller than my chubby 3 Manchurian.

I probably shouldn't have started out with a chubby 3 Manchurian. most everything else feels miniature.

That's a very nice brush.

I had to glance twice at the speedometer in the photo though - for a minute I thought it was marked in mph and not kmh!!!

Did you get it from Lee or buy it from someone in the forums?

I think he probably bought it from Amir. Bob and another member have/had identical M&F brushes with "Finest" labels that they obtained from Amir, who also kindly offered one to me a week or two ago on which I passed. All three were recently made, i.e., not NOS. My understanding is that the hair in these may be judged by some to be closely similar but is not the same as old Rooney Finest, which has neither been sourced nor otherwise available except in NOS brushes for at least a couple of years. Coloration of the tips of these new "Finest" brushes doesn't look the same to me in photos I've seen. All 4 of the brushes I have with old Rooney Finest hair have honey/amber-colored tips (just at the ends of the tips). It's subtle, but nonetheless distinctive IMO

I did pick it up from Amir.

I can post high definition close up shots of the tips and we can compare.

Nice brush. Congrats

Thanks.

It is a drop-dead beautiful brush. I would be pleased and proud to own it. But I wasn't willing to pay $320 for an M&F 2XL that I don't believe has a knot made of old Rooney Finest badger hair. And it isn't that I don't prize the brushes Lee labels as M&F "Blonde Badger". I recently bought two of them, which he described as having been made with hair that is very similar to Rooney Finest. They are both great brushes. One, in particular, is a favorite. But the hair in those two brushes is clearly distinguishable from that in the brushes I own and know to have old Rooney Finest knots. And I don't think painting a "Finest" label on a Sabini-made brush makes it worth a $100+ premium over what would otherwise be the price of an M&F brush with identical hair.
