What's new

My new home

I am saddened that after the same post I made here regarding how long to have a blade honed I was banned forever from the Straight Razor Place. Seriously

You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.
Date the ban will be lifted: Never

Lynn is a real classy guy. I suspect I will not be getting my straight razor a brand new Dovo. However if I do receive it back I will be fair to post otherwise. As it stands now I am out of close to 250 bucks on something that was a Christmas gift from my better half. Has anyone else had a similar experience? It has really put a damper on me being active or wanting to mix and mingle, at 41 years old you just expect behavior like this from your kids. Even when people asked me who I used, unless through PM, I did not say, as I thought that was very unprofessional and unfair. BUT as I see it now Lynn Abrhams and Vintage Blades have some explaining to do........Wait a second I am not going to get banned from here to for talking about bad service...Am I??

I know nothing about any of this, but I will say that you should tread lightly. Impugning someone's reputation can have consequences and while you've given us a sliver of the story here it's only your side and therefore a little unfair. You have effectively called this person a thief and a child.

AH! I see that there is context in another thread. Apologies. I'd still be careful about what I said, etc., but I have a better understanding of where you're coming from.

Welcome to the site, but keep in mind we don't allow bashing of other sites, however well deserved you think it may be. Just keep it in the past and don't look back.

Some other sites are a bit more authoritarian and controlling (which is probably why this site is so much more popular) however as was mentioned you don't really want to trash someone when it may not be justified.

So far it sounds like you haven't actually talked to Lynn or anyone else. If you are sending emails that aren't being returned maybe they aren't getting them and maybe they didn't actually get your razor either?

A simple phone call would tell you whether you really have a problem or not. What ever the problem is I think it's certain that Lynn isn't going to keep your razor (if he even has it).

I read your other thread and can appreciate the frustration but it's time for a phone call :)

^ Yep. Make the call. Things are not always what they seem. Even if they are, things can usually be settled well with a bit of calm talk and patience.

I don't know what Vintage is or what banning you has to do with returning your call. When did you place the call?

You have to admit that something just doesn't sound right here? :)

I just sent an email to them to see what they have to say.

I don't see why you would be banned for a comment like that. As someone who is new to wet shaving and straight shaving, it would seem logical that even though a question as simple as that might start becoming redundant, or too personal, etc... From a new member, who is unaware of many things, its a relevant question.

I bought some Naniwa hones from Lynn, he seems like a good guy. I don't know anything about vintage blades, however, I will note that Vintage blades is not Lynns website, his website is StraightRazorDesigns.com, Jim Ayars is president of vintageblades. It seems that Vintageblades (from Maryland) has some sort of partnership with Lynn (in Missouri) where Lynn does the honing. The Address listed on Vintage Blades is also the address listed on StraightRazorDesigns, so assuming the address you wrote was correct, your razor made it to Lynn.

I couldn't imagine Lynn receiving a razor and not sending it back. If that were the case then the founder of SRP would be stealing, which seems highly unlikely. More than likely he is just swamped with a lot of razors.

I would try emailing him if you haven't already. If you don't get a response, I would try calling him. There is a number listed on StraightRazorDesigns.com. But like I said, more than likely he is just backed up. But if for some reason he never responds/never sends you your razor, which doesn't seem likely, then you have the companies name, number address, etc.. to file a complaint.

Hope all turns out well, and I hope this experience doesn't make you frown upon wetshaving. I've never had a bad experience with anyone. Everybody i've come in contact with, including Lynn, has been more than helpful.

Thank you. But I think if you read my text a litter closer you will notice that I did not, nor would I accuse him of anything, I do suspect certain things based on his voicemail, me being banned and the fact I still do not have my property coupled with the fact he has not attempted to provide me with my one simple request, a tracking number.

I do think as a newbie we look to ther post for advice based on hopefuly honest impressions and thoughtful conversation. I do not feel I have said or done anything against that spirit.

On the contrary I am angry, disappointed and I guess curious as to why this has happened with what I considered gentleman (sorry ladies I know you are out there too). So I am very frustrated. But again if this board sees my post as slamming Lynn then please do remove it.

Thank you. I do appreciate the words. I did call twice and I did email. I am hopeful that this post will 'motivate' him to simply send my blade as I requested no harm, no foul, keep the check. Yes those were my words in short. I felt I was polite, but polite is relative. I do think he was busy, but i do think he could have not promised the blade to me and then not send it after he promised OR he could have reached out as a professional and managed my expectations by saying FYI got really busy, I know I promised it to go out this week, but i need to push that to X day. I think the frustration for me was/is the not knowing but being told something else and waiting to shave with my razor. I still have not touched my face with my straight razor. So the child, you could say is me in wanting to have my toy.

Thank you please do let me know what they say, for anyone who seriously doubts my integrity or thinks I just want to "flame" Lynn I am willing via PM to share the entire email chain which I thought was rather pleasant.

cleanshaved

I’m stumped
Hope you sort the razor issue out soon. I am sure it will turn out ok.
welcome. B&B has a great straight razor section and I am sure you will find it to your liking.

Just to double check which number you called, the numbers listed on vintage blade and StraightRazorDesigns are different, as they are different people. Lynns number, who is honing your razor is listed here . This is the number you need to call to get to lynn.

It does say on StraightRazorDesigns that they due to post holiday business, they are behind on razors. So this might be the cause.

I agree, but this is a tough pill to swallow with it being the first blade I recived as a gift to introduce me to the 'hobby'. I was scared to give it to many people who offered here because I was new on the board and did not know you guys, I still dont, but i have made some contacts of people in my area who seem pretty nice, with who I could learn from.

Again I do not want to cross the line and damage this board as a 'people basher', rather I'm hoping someone knows a guy, who knows a guy, who will help to settle this and yes maybe bring some clarity to it all. I do not know Lynn, but I trusted him enough based off of reputation to give him my blade. I guess I may have expected to much as a newbie, but i really thought three weeks, now going on four is a bit much for a pay service.

I heard from Lynn immediately. He said that he has exchanged dozens of emails with you and that you threatened a lawsuit. He said that he told you that he was too busy to get to the post office on Friday but that it is now in the mail. He says that you two have exchanged several phone calls as well.

He did say that after he mailed the razor (yesterday) that he sent you an email requesting that you send future razors to someone else.

By the way, he did give me permission to post regarding our conversation.

An accusation and an implication are separated by a very fine line. I have no dog in this fight. Say what you wish, but you catch more flies with honey. You have no idea what's going on with this guy, he could be in the midst of a personal crisis of any sort you may wish to imagine. A lesson I learned from a good friend of mine, "Assume positive intent."

ETA: I'm behind the times again! LOL The above post was kind of what I suspected.

If teh board permits it I will post the entire thread as it occured. He is not being truthful. BUT I am happy to hear he mailed the razor yesterday.

This was my last email to him I think i can post that.

I mean you no disrespect, but I am starting to worry about my razor. As was explained to you this was a gift and a very special one to me. You mentioned that you would send the blade last week but I never received a follow up or tracking number. Earlier today I sent an email that went unanswered and later a call. These things do not give me a warm and fuzzy. I have been unable to play with my new hobby for almost a month now and I just feel that is not fair and that you could have informed me if there was a problem or delay. I also think if you did send the package out already that a simple email could have taken care of this and avoided a customer feeling put-off or anxious. I did not use just anyone with an item I felt was special to me and I just feel you are not conducting business in a manner I would have expected based on your reputation.

If you could please let me know the honest status of my blade that would be appreciated. If you have not honed it please do not and simply send it back to me next day using the check I provided. If you knew the full story to that gift you might understand this email a little bit deeper and my concern.

Regards,

(Daghostryder)

Again I hear you and I do agree. I think I did conduct myself with him in a very dignified way. IF he had problems heck just let me know, Buddy I cant get to it right now, sorry! All I would have been able to do is either wait or ask him to please return it. I think the miscommunication is the problem. We all have life happen at some time or other. Maybe he will bemore sensative to that in the future.

I will say THANK YOU GUYS for listening to an ole man rant, but that blade is special to me. It is nice to hear that he did put the blade in the mail, I wish he had let me know that, but thank you guys for reaching out. I acomplished what I had hoped, that someone knew a guy, who knew a guy, who could settle this :) This is how I grew up. Some of you older guys on the board know what I'm talking about, I think.
