What's new

My new EJ DE89L

Just came in the mail yesterday from TESC, and all I can say is WOW! It is a huge difference from my Merkur 23c I have been using. Set it up with a Personna Red and Trumpers Lime cream, DFS in 2 passes, I can live with that. It also made a huge difference on shaving my head. I've been doing 2, sometimes 3, passes to get my head acceptable, but today was almost perfect in 1 pass (I had one small spot I had to go back and touch-up.)

Overall I am VERY pleased with my new purchase. I had no idea the type of razor made that much of a difference.:thumbup1:

Wow, I'm suprised that there is a discernible difference between these two head designs. My impression was that the Muhle was less aggressive than the Mekur. :001_huh:

Looking at the chart in the Wiki section, the blade gap on the Merkur 23c is .025" (.64mm) and the Muhle/EJ is .03" (.76mm). The weight of the EJ is also about .5 ounce heavier than the Merkur. I guess with the different variables it just makes for a better shave IMO, YMMV.

All I know is "0" irritation + "0" weepers + "0" nicks + easily shaves my head = well worth the $28 I spent on the razor.

I think the aggressiveness of the Muhle head has been understated, and the Merkur overstated. With the right blades, my Merkur 37 slant and EJ DE87 both give 3 pass BBS with minimal to no weepers and/or irritation.
With the wrong blades, they both suck.
Considering the fact that they are both very nice razors I lean toward aggressiveness being highly influenced by the blade used.

I just shaved today with my EJ, an Egyptian blade with a guy in jogging shorts on the wrapper(runner? marathon? racer? dunno, I threw the wrapper away when I put the blade in there the other day) , a VdH (blasphemy, I know) boar brush, and a Godrej shave round.

I got 3 pass BBS with no irritation. 2 tiny weepers. The alum block was painless, as was the Iceland Breeze AS. I felt nothing but cold menthol.

Seems the Godrej soap, Egyptian sotraco blade, and EJ razor are a match made in shave heaven, for my face, anyway. Your experience may differ.

I like the EJ razor very much. I could be happy with it as my only razor, if I were inclined to have only one.

I have a Mühle R89, similar to the EJ, with the same head and a slightly different handle. Just love it, it is my weapon of choice for everyday use.
Since I bought it, I simply don't feel the need for another razor.

Oh, and by the way, those are RACER blades. They are produced by LORD Company in Egypt.
