What's new

My Lucky Cousin - Holiday Edition

Hello everyone,

A little while back I was thinking about what I wanted to get as a holiday present this year for my wet shaving cousin, and then I remembered how much he liked my custom John Turner brush that I recently got. Problem solved - I decided that's what I would get him (don't worry, he's not crazy enough to come on here, so it will still be a surprise ). Anyhow, 1989 was a very significant year for my cousin for personal reasons, so I thought it would be special for him if I got a brush commemorating that year. So I got the ball rolling on that.

Fast forward to present... apparently it is now complete because I received a note from John saying it will be sent to me soon along with this group of photos. Needless to say, I am blown away. I sure hope my cousin will appreciate this - I'm almost tempted to keep it for myself! :biggrin1:

Now, it's your turn. If you have a lucky wet shaver in your family/group of friends this season, it would be fun to see what you are planning too. Photos encouraged!!

Very Nice, I have thought about doing exactly that with a coin. It's nice to see it done. I am thinking about getting a nice set for my 14 year old son who has started shaving with a superspeed. Probably his own bowl with Stirling Sharp Dressed Man (he likes that) and probably his own brush, He likes the razor he's using so I don't know about that.

Very nice brush. Like the kennedy half in it. I got my brother a simpson rover brush. When it arrived I thought I would check it to make sure it did not get damaged. Then I thought maybe try it out make sure the hair did not get damage. Ten shaves later, is it still new? Now I guess I need a new gift for him.

Sending my buddy a birth year Fatboy, some Cella and a good assortment of blades.
He has never tried or owned a vintage DE razor

Beautiful brush. Does John Turner have a website?

Not that I'm aware of. I think I heard that he's working on putting one up, but as far as I know, it's still in the works. His communication via email is excellent, though, so if you have a question for him, I wouldn't hesitate to ask.
I checked with the mod team and they said it's fine for me to post the email address for John Turner, so here it is:

[email protected]

Oh boy, I'm gonna try my best not to follow in your example. This will be tough!!
Maybe you should just get him the exact same brush again? That way you won't be tempted. :biggrin1:

That's awesome of you..... I'm sure he will LOVE it. THe birth year fatboy is such a special gift, and Cella (one of my favorites) plus a blade assortment just sweetens it further. Great choices. I'm loving hearing what people are doing for their friends/family this year!!

For Christmas this year, I have decided to get my son started wet shaving, if he's interested. If not, he can keep the stuff until his boys get old enough to shave.
Razor: Gillette Black Beauty adjustable, short handle, in the case. It was sold as slightly used, but I can find no flaws of any kind.
Brush: Semogue 610 red handle
Blades: 20 each Astra SPs, Feathers, Polsilver Super Iridiums
Arko shave stick
Tabac shave cream
Cella shave soap
Vintage Old Spice shave mug

I'm thinking I may get him a small bottle of Shulton Old Spice aftershave. It would have been my a/s of choice during his growing-up years.
