I started my DE shave with a Feather blade. It was very sharp but gave a few nicks and weepers here and there. Also, the blade was not that cheap and add to that I had buy that from US or other international sites which adds up to the price.
In the meantime I ordered a pack of 100 Astra SP from Turkey after reading so much about them here.
They were on their way and I was in search for a cheaper but quality blade. I then used the Gillette Black plat blades available locally in India. They were excellent blades. Sharp and smooth and not too costly.
When I was in the middle of shaving with my 3rd Gillette black my pack of Astras arrived. I tried one and was pretty much amazed by the right balance of sharpness and smoothness. The price was also just right. It soon became my no. 1 blade for daily use.
In the meantime like many of you I experimented with many blades. I tried Gillette yellow, Red Personna, Gillette superthin (PIF ed by another member), Rapira, Merkur, Shark SS. Among the lot I liked the Gillette yellow most. All the others except the Merkur and the Red Personna were good for me. Some of them quite sharp, some of them smooth but none as close to Astra.
I also read praise about SuperMax super plat. I was pretty interested to try one. But although the blade is made in India I can't find a single one in my city. So, I ordered 10 blades from bestshave.net. Those arrived and I sceptically loaded one of them in my Slim adjustable and man I was blown away by the shave. This was the perfect blade for me in terms of sharpness and smoothness. Even my earlier favorite Astra is now in second place.
I started pestering the SuperMax customercare through emails asking availability of these blades in my city. After 3 weeks of bugging today morning someone from SuperMax delivered 100 SuperMax Plat blades to my home and they charged me $6 .
So, I don't need to spend any more of my time experimenting with blades . BTW including the SuperMax I already have more than 300 blades right now .
