What's new

My Holy Grail, Does it exist?

I have collected about fifty razors now and have come to the end of my quest.
My “birth year” Gillette razors are I-3 (Third quarter of July 1963). I have some fine examples of the Super Speed and the Slim Adjustable but for the life of me I can not find an I-3 Tech.
Has anyone even seen one? :001_unsur

Looking for an exact year and quarter may take patience. You might try a WTB ad. I had a couple running for a while, and also had a WTB line in my signature. Eventually a couple of members contacted me and sold me what I was looking for (Schick types D and O in my case).

Have accumulated several Slims, Techs, and Super Speeds - and a high percentage are J (1964)...has anyone else encountered this?:001_huh:

Fortunately yes! I got my birthyear Slim pretty quickly. Be patient and remember they made millions of these...it will turn up. Just be ready to pay idiotic prices if you want a Fatboy.

You could set up a saved search to get an alert for when it pops up, though that will take some patience, and you might miss it if your grail gets listed without a code.

Myself, I'm not in any hurry to acquire more razors (SWMBO heartily concurs), so whenever something matches my search string "gillette super spead t3" will be fine.

Or you could set up a search for the Tech and just spend a couple minutes each day looking at the new ones listed and copying and pasting a query about the date code if it's not listed.

Tedious, and you've probably already thought of both of these, but they're my only suggestion beyond echoing the WTB idea above.

Thank you gentlemen.
I have been watching eBay and have posted on WTB numerous times and have yet to find one. The sighting of the I-1 Tech does give me hope though.
It seems that the predominant Gillette razor of 1963 was the Slim Adjustable since that is what most of my searches bring up so I don't think that there were many Techs made by that time.

And the quest continues... :biggrin1:

I know they were still making the ball end techs in 1966, because I have a picture of one. But you may be right about fewer made in the 1960s than previous. Besides the Slim, Gillette was putting out millions of relatively inexpensive flare tip SSs.

It's a new year and I am still looking for that Gillette I-3 Tech that will complete my collection.
Any one have a nice one they are willing to part with?

I´ve looked to the pictures of my ever sold razors: I´ve found a 1960 (F1) Tech, a 1961 (G2) German Tech with aluminum handle, no 1962, no 1963 , since 1964 the short handle Travel Tech.

My feedback shows one I1 Tech sold.

I can no longer see the pictures of it or the description, but from the title I am assuming it had the etched logo. I don't think I would have used the word 'logo' if it had simply had the word 'Gillette' stamped into it.
Two others I've found, also both I1, have that cap as well.

One short and one long handle, apparently before the switch to aluminum.

If it exists, you'll never find it. Isn't that the lesson of the Holy Grail?

(j/k - good luck. Hoping your persistence will pay off.)
