My Guess... 3017

I took inventory of the soaps in my den and started the 3017 process the other day. Here's what I've got to start:

I'm averaging about 5.5 shaves per week recently, so I expect this will take somewhere between 3.5 and 5 years depending on a few things.

That's a fair estimate, though the Harris soaps can take you upwards of 6 months depending on how heavily you load. The same goes for MWF and Tabac.

I'm totally new to wet shaving with a safety razor. Over the last month I've taken a deep dive. (youtube videos, wicked edge in reddit, and if course here) and I already have 10 soaps. I plan on 3017'ing my first tub that I got in a starter set. It happens to be a Vegan Los Angeles Shaving Company vanilla. Let's see how this goes. My shaves are still bizarre. Baby bottom on some parts and not so much on others. Also. Bumps on the neck. I need to use no pressure I know but still.

I finished the Wholly Kaw La Fougere Parfaite. It's an excellent soap with above average post shave feel. The lather is dense and yogurty.

I will have to dig through the boxes of soap and see what's next.

That’s a nice mix of product. You have several years of excellent shaves to look forward to Sir.

Finishing up the AoS Lavender and starting the Fat. It’s been many years since I’ve used the Mitchell’s. Looking forward to it... in a day, maybe two.

For comparison, the last time I worked through a puck of Tabac I got 130 shaves out of it. I suspect I was loading heavier after the first few weeks as the top layer of the puck absorbed water and got softer.

This Edwin Jagger Aloe Vera is lasting forever.

I shave daily and including test lathers I've put 29 shaves on it so far. I weighed it before I started and it weighed 27g and visually im probably half way through (Away from home at the moment so cant weigh it) which puts me well under 1gram per shave.

I bowl lather with a synthetic 24mm brush and have plenty of thick slick lather during and after my shave so I'm not being skimpy and my shaves are fantastic.

Anyone had any experience similar or different with this soap?

i have one Haslinger shave stuck to the bottom of my glass jar, but I’m traveling and beginning this tube that I picked up in Porto a couple years ago. I probably should have brought the green Principe Real tube as I’m in Lisbon, but I didn’t think about it when packing. Today’s first lather was very good. The same quality lather that you expect from the Musgo Real and Antiga Barbearia de Bairro creams. What will set this cream apart is scent: mostly cedar with some citrus and spice. It is supposed to recall the scents of a neighborhood in Porto. I don’t remember a lot of cedar there, but it smells nice! Good post shave feel as well. If scent matters to you, pay the extra to try this more-than-budget Portuguese cream.066DFBE8-8C88-43FB-AEFF-B17FDBD8175E.jpeg

I just finished my last puck of vintage Old Spice a few days ago. This run was about 4 months of shaving every day. I think it had maybe a month on it before I started 3017'ing it.

There was a thin ring of it that was starting to take too long to lather, so the remnant went into my "mutt soap" tub with other accumulated remnants.

The vintage Old Spice was a great soap! Too bad they don't make it any more. I've now started on a slightly-used puck of Provence Sante Green Tea, which I think was from a B&B group buy about 5 years back. Another fine soap, and it fit right into the Old Spice mug I just emptied! I'm guessing it will last me well into the new year.

Just did a rough inventory of my soap drawer. Somewhere north of 40 pucks and a few sticks left, some used, some unused. Like @beginish I worry that I won't finish all my soaps before I die and my kids will bin what's left. So my strategy is to use up the better stuff first to make sure it gets used by me and not thrown out by someone else.

I might have nightmares of loved ones trashing my soap hoar.... um... collection. Makes me feel that going and "collecting" soaps from estate sales may put some souls to rest. That could be the SAD speaking though.

Anyhow. My takes on Tabac. This is a great soap and could easily be a regularly used soap based on price to performance value. I like the scent but it could be better as some will agree. I was nervous coming into this soap because of the comparison of Tabac to Fine soaps. I've finished Fine snakebite about a year ago and found it drying. I'm not sure if it was the menthol (it was very cooling) or the formula but Tabac is giving me a much nicer post shave feel.
