What's new

My Guess... 3017

Back on the 3017 train. I've been out of service most of the last couple years with a beard. Going to finish this tub of Castle Forbes Lime. Hopefully I can get through it quick, but I'm only shaving my neck and cheeks every other day until I shave the beard off completely in a week or two. Then I should be full gas after that. So far the CF Lime has been working well just as I remember. Nice lime scent for the summer heat.

I am a bit desperate for kills... so I am happy to say that a 400ml bottle of Floid Blue is fully consumed after 882 shaves (today). I like it quite a bit... too bad I can't seem to find it anymore. My efforts against a Vitos brick continue and I hope that it doesn't secretly grow during the night when nobody is looking.

That was one of my more satisfying kills if the last several years.

39 shaves on my Frankensoap. There's a green spot now, I added a remnant of a Palmolive bar soap from the shower a few weeks ago. I think that may be a first on this thread, a shower soap being promoted to shave duty, lol.
I had an irregular shaped breakthrough a few days ago. Right after I snapped this pic, I used a spoon to reform the soap and smooth the sides flat.

So I’m not 3017ing my whole collection of soaps and creams, but I thought I’d use one sample until it was gone. Small steps, right? WCS advertises the samples should last about four shaves. I got 11 shaves out of it. At five or six shaves, I started wondering how long it was going to last. I started to wonder how do these guys (that’s you) do it? Use only one thing until it’s gone?

Of course, this is a new question I can ask. That’s exactly what I did for 10 years. Buy a soap, use it until it’s gone then buy another. (I also had only one brush.) Last year and this year, I bought a bunch of soaps/creams including some samples (and brushes), and it seems now that I have this variety, I want to change things up. Using this sample alone, made it clear to me how used to variety I’ve become. I don’t think that’s a good thing.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I shave for today; I try to forget about yesterday and not think about tomorrow. It also helps to use a soap I enjoy. I think that's the only way I've been able to get through the last 209 daily shaves with the same soap.

BTW, congrats on the kill

I got moves like Jagger
Switched over to my Paladin this morning to deliver the coup de grace to the Venture soap and it did so with ease, providing a great lather and wonderful shave. Scott's products are GREAT and the Venture was no exception. I will continue my Captain's Choice journey by moving on to my last soap of his, the cherry power-bomb 45th Parallel, starting tomorrow.

Working on a bowl with 196 grams of LPL (1 refill natural, 1refill Cedre-Patchouli). I think this will take a year. Started this month. Finally got LPL working for me. I left it open for 6 months. Now it is a lot like MdC. Using my 25/50mm black badger. I have a tub of Rasozero pre-shave (agrumella) and a tub of Prep pre-shave down to 25%. So they will come first.

I finished off the Crabtree & Evelyn Nomad this morning. 185 shaves at a rate of about 0.6g per shave. Plenty of great lather. Too bad it is no longer available.

Actually, there were a few bits left, but I got tired of chasing them around the mug and consigned them to my Frankensoap container. I prefer to call it "Mutt Soap". It has mixed heritage, but when you mix the remnants of good soaps, the result is good soap. At least in my experience it is.

Still rolling along with MdC. I was going to weigh it but, who am I kidding, I have months left to go. Maybe when the bottom of the jar peeks through I'll drop it on a scale. That should be....oh....2 or 3 years. Its all good though. I suspect MdC will be one of those rare products that once the 3017 is completed I'll miss it for a while.

On a side note, I should have a kill to report soon. Its not a 3017 but, I'll take any kill I can get right now. Several years ago I picked up a small bottle of Proraso Green A/S to use as a summer splash. I figured it'd be done come Autumn. I even added some extra menthol to give it an extra cooling kick. Its good stuff, but gosh am I ready to move on to something else. Is it just me or does it seem like aftershaves last forever?

I agree with stubborn aftershave. If I use 5ml of a 100ml bottle for ever shave, it should be done in 20 shaves right? But a bottle just goes on and on!
