Twenty one shaves into my 100g (3.5 ounces) puck of Fine Platinum (old formula). Excellent shaves. Its taken on a heap of water and is very soft, so i cant tell how many shaves im likely to get from it. My guess would be around 60 to 70 but we shall see. I just need to long haul it I think. For many on here, I know 21 shaves is a heartbeat, a blink of an eye, a grain of sand.......

I began shaving with TOBS creams. I will always have a soft spot for them, primarily because they are just so easy to use. My first brush purchase was an enormous floppy silvertip that worked fine on TOBS but was hopeless on soaps. So I know in my heart that if I had begun shaving with that brush and a puck of DR Harris, I would have been back on the electric shaver within a week.

But, having discovered soaps, and realized that on the whole I enjoy them far more than TOBS, I seem to have in my mind that "soaps are better than creams and triple milled soaps are better than anything". Now, I pride myself on an open mind and I'm the guy that will go in a restaurant and order something that I've never had before and possibly wont like, just to expand my horizons. But I do seem to have anchored onto the prejudice that creams are inferior. I know it isn't true as a general point, and it may not even be true for me, but its the impression I've formed.

So, when I get my stash of 35 soaps down to something less intimidating, I will buy a top flight cream. That may be some time off but this thread is all about long term ambition!

I absolutely loved this soap. The performance was great and the scent reminded me of my childhood, camping with my grandparents in Arkansas. I will definitely buy more Stirling, and while I am keen to try all their unscented offerings I will probably also keep a place for this scent for sentimental reasons.

Coming up is Saponificio Varesino Tundra Artica which I put into a Barrister & Mann tub:

I am very much looking forward to trying this.I have heard Tundra Artica is particularly slick and specially designed for straight shavers which I am not but I am interested in trying slick soaps.

Further out I have: NO Rawr, WK King of Oud, Sudsy Soapery Top o the Morning, and another SV, Dolomiti.

Hi there. What is your thoughts of SV tundra Artica in terms of scent??Is it really smells like oud woody and cedar???? I am almost ready to buy it.

Still ploughing on with the Fine Accoutrements Platinum (old formula). Its is producing very, very good shaves. I met friends for lunch in London yesterday and was congratulated on a nice scent and a fine close shave - which was a very nice compliment indeed.

I find myself enjoying the puck but wanting to know how many shaves I have to get through to move onto the next victim.. The rational side of me tells me to just enjoy the shaves. All part of the journey Im sure.

I really like the scent. I would describe it as woody rose. The rose scent stands out to me but it is very masculine. I definitely get a lot of cedar off the puck. I just did a sniff test against my WK King of Oud puck, and that helped me identify the notes of oud in TA, so yeah I definitely get oud from TA.

I've been messing around with a tube of DRH Arlington, but now it's time to get back to 3017ing. My next soap will be GFT Violet. I will be alternating between these two pucks for the first shaves to compare performance. The puck in the left is GFT tallow which was gifted to me by a very generous member here. The puck in the right is their Potassium Palmate version. I've read on other forums these two pucks are nearly indistinguishable. I guess we will see.

I think there’s no way in heck that the tallow doesn’t beat the pants off the veggie version. Take it from me, don’t 3017 that tallow puck. It’s special and deserves to be savored and made to last as long as possible. I learned the hard way with a puck of LaToja Manantiales, and regret it to this day.

I welcome another 3017er hitting the veggie Violet along with me. It’s not the best, but far from the worst (I’m looking at you, Captain Fawcett’s), and the scent is divine.
