My Guess... 3017

Right guys... Does anyone know the etymology of "3017"?

I obviously know it means to see something through to the end but why 3017?

Reading through the opening post I suspect it relates to the year 3017. It could also be a typo as the OP (in 2010) mentions the year 2017.

Me neither. Did you use it as a stick? That would explain, because I pucked mine and loaded like a normal soap. In fact, with La Toja I was even underloading. I typically load my hard soaps for 30-35 seconds and have an average consumption of 1.1-1.5g per shave. With La Toja 20-25 seconds of loading time were plenty.
Yes, I used it as a stick. I don’t think i have ever used La Toja in a bowl/mug. I have pressed Speick into an Old Spice mug and it may have accelerated its use.

Dickens Revisited that I bought last year. Next: Wholly Kaw Spice Vitae.

Hello friends. Long time no post (for me). 2020 has been a year, that’s for sure.

I’ve been working through this partial tub of sweet goodness for all of December:

At the conclusion of tonight’s shave, there was a significant hole in the center and the ring was beginning to break apart. I took the remnants and placed them in the center of my Marvy for completion.

Next up, Stirling Christmas Eve:

I did finish off a dear friend this evening. They will be missed:

Well, that’s all for now. I’ll see you fine folks in 2021 👍🏻

So I've run through and sampled a handful of products new to me this holiday and had a few thoughts. Largely how do people do this? In persute of scent variety people forgo the pleasure of a better shave. Every product gave me a glimpse of it's potential without fully delivering. I'm happily returning to the 3017 process. Sometimes a brief hiatus helps reaffirms faith in the system.

I think I've settled in on 3017'ing this puck of Haslinger Sage (the old tallow version). I used it for about a week a while back and for whatever reason it wasn't really doing it for me at the time so I put it away for later. Been using it for a week now and it's working really well so i'll stick with it. Probably a couple more weeks, give or take. It's in an old Proraso tub which works well for these small pucks. When the Haslinger's done, I may throw a puck of vintage Williams in there.

I got moves like Jagger
My 2020 3017 kill list
2019-start - Feb.04.2020......Williams
Feb.05 - May.26.2020............Pitralon
May.27- Jul.26.2020..............Williams
Jul.27-Oct.04.2020................Godrej round
Oct.05-Nov.29.2020..............Haslinger Aloe Vera
Nov.30-current victim.............Nivea cream

43 pucks of soap in my stash,
43 pucks of soap.
Take one out,
Finish it off,
42 pucks of soap in my stash!

This morning I finished off a puck of Tabac. I started the current run on October 2 when it had 102 recorded shaves on it. Final tally was 192 shaves.

Sad to say that this was only the third puck I finished off this year. The others were Provence Sante and Franklin Barbershop, both of which were long-lived. (Franklin Barbershop is a vintage tallow soap.)

Next up is a puck of Vintage Williams, selected not because it's the best soap in my stash, but because I should be able to finish it off relatively quickly. Its current weight is only 40 grams. (It was 1-3/4 oz = 50 grams new.)

Back in the game after 12 months of having a beard. Minimal product was used as I was only shaving my neck once a week. Shaved off the beard a few weeks back and have been using GD Elan. Soap performance has been outstanding which has helped me get back to form without any issues.

I must have had a little over 25 shaves with this soap prior as I am using it at a rate of 2 grams per shave. After today's shave the soap is at 52 g, so looking at another 25 shaves approx.

This year’s products:
Rio Sul cream
La Toja stick
ABB Principe Real cream
Speick cream
Proraso Sensitive tub
Top Secret cream
Knocked out a good chunk of stash without making a soap or cream purchase. 2020 wasn’t all bad!

Now half as wise
I finished the puck of AOSt this morning. This is the puck before this mornings shave. After, there wasn't even enough left to bother putting it into the Frankensoap bowl.

I dug thru my stash a couple of days ago and came up with the replacement. This is a French artisan soap that was popular back in 2013 and 2014, but then seemed to have disappeared from the forums. I got this during my trip to Paris in 2014.

I an't find any mention of it in the 3017 thread, so this maybe a first! It was very dehydrated as expected, so I spent a couple days rehydrating it. Not as soft as is looks!

Have no idea how long this may last. It did seem to get good reviews back in the day.

Roughly 6 weeks into my grated pucks (2) of Haslinger and they are showing little wear. The Simpson T3 did a number on croaps but is having little impact on the much firmer Haslinger, yet is producing stellar lathers. I expect to continue with Haslinger through the remainder of the cold winter months. Fine by me, this is some good stuff.
