What's new

My growing collection

I have a hard time displaying my collection and taking a photo of it. It's in two long shelves in my china cabinet. This particular photo was taken with the camera over my head and composing in the live view screen. It was taken with a 20mm lens on a Nikon D700 with the distortion corrected in photo Shop.

There are 70 razors in the cabinet. The top shelf has 35 solid bar razors and the bottom shelf are all open comb.

All my favorites are on the bottom shelf and include a Double Ring, 5 single rings, An Old Type Bigfellow, a New Improved Big Fellow, and a New and a New De Luxe Big Boy. There are 5 pocket razors , 4 are by ABC. There is also a Bostonian, Criterion De Luxe, 2 Tuckaways and a Bulldog. Also a couple of my favorite TTO open combs, The '34 Aristocrat and the English Aristocrat #15.

The top shelf has one of every year Super Speed in their original cases or boxes from 1947 through 1960 plus a scattering from 1966 through 1972. Also is an example of each adjustable plus specials like the Ranger Tech, V3 Super Speed and '54 and '58 TV Specials.

I have slowed down my buying and only look for something special I can get for under $100 or so. There are no Diplomat's, President's, Toggles or any of the very high priced solid bar razors.

That's sweet.

I can imagine you standing in front of the cabinet, with the doors open, a smile on your face and basking in the glow reflecting off of all that Gold, Silver and Nickel.

Congrats on a fine collection

how many do you actually use and how many are strictly display pieces?

I have about 20 duplicate razors I use in my rotation. The top shelf is strictly in my collection and none are shaved with. On the bottom shelf I'll sample maybe 5 razors a month. I have dupes of two Aristocrats but like using the #15 from time to time. I also enjoy trying a single Ring, a New De Luxe and the Big Fellows. I have tried the pocket ABC's and next on my list is the Bulldog. I have not tried the Double Ring yet and may reserve it for New Year's Eve. My Gem's, Valet's and Schicks are not in the display as I have been using them.

Do I spy a WWI officer's Military Set on the bottom right next to your Khaki Set?

THAT is an absolutely stunning collection, especially considering you put it together in 6 months. Very impressive.

Len -

That is one beautiful collection!

Congratulations on putting it together and putting them on display so nicely.

Yup. That's the WWI Officers set. The Bulldog is sitting on top of the case. That and my Double Ring are my favorites.

I am in awe! FWIW, I doubt anyone would be disappointed to see some closer pics of segments of the collection if you get the chance. Either way, a truly great grouping of history, tremendous collection, thanks for sharing it with us!

Very nice, the best collection I have seen in a while:thumbup1:

Len, you need to get us some closeup pictures, maybe one section at a time.
