My Grelots

Howdy all,

I havent posted much on this site but thought id post my shave collection.

I know its only two razors, but i sold all the rest because these grelots are the only ones i want to keep. I should be expecting another grelot soon tho (mirror polish and ivory scales) Cant wait to be able to show that one off.

Both razors are mirror polished 6/8 grind and full hollow ground. One is in bone scales while the other is in rams horn.

These give me some of the best shaves possible and love my grelots

Enjoy!

The rams horn scales are great. I'd have to say that my LeGrelot's would be in my top handful of best shaving straights.

That's exactly why I'm not buying more after these two razors.

They shave like a dream but I find they are a bit difficult to hone. Or is that just my lack of honing skills?

Both are less than a year old. I bought them new.

I got the bone one first and then realized how great of a razor it is so I sold off everything else I had and bought the rams horn.

I still have a few razors on loan that I'm waiting to get back so I can sell those off too. Then I'll be able to get the ivory grelot I've always wanted.

WOW! Jealous! That Ram's horn is just gorgeous. Wisht it wasn't so expensive.

Agreed it was a bit expensive.

But considering how much we spend on lots of small eBay purchases it kinda evens out to one big purchase. It did for me anyway lol.

Sometimes I find it funny to see people on this and other sites buying razor upon razor. And then still claim to have started straight razor shaving to save money.

I admit when I started a bought a bunch to try whatever I could out. But after I found my perfect razor I sold whatever I knew I wouldn't use. Because let's face it the hundreds of razors some of us have are never all gonna get used,no matter how much you say you will they just won't.

So I sold them off and now just have my two day rotation. And soon three. I know I said too much isn't good but three sounds like a perfect number to me. And also this would be therazor I'd use on my wedding day and other special occasions, this is my own version on RAD lol.

Beautiful pair - very nice. I have 2 of these as well (with cheaper scales) and they are great shavers.

Anyone who tells you that straight shaving is to save money is either extremely new to the activity and hasn't yet caught the ADs or has been doing it a very long time and has actually foregone the purchase of about 26 years of cartridges... which is when I figure I'll break even on 15 razors, 4 strops, 3 brushes and 15 soaps...if I'm lucky...

I wish I had your willpower. I told myself at least 5 times on 5 different occasions that I wasn't buying anymore razors.

As for the Le Grelot, I have a quarter hollow and it's going in the coffin with me.

In terms of RAD, etc., I'm finding lately that my greatest satisfaction in str8 razor shaving is buying an inexpensive older razor (certain older Sheffield's are really doing it for me right now), and then honing it up to get a great shave. I'm not a collector, per se, but this is what's working for me.

lol i agree my grelots will go to the grave with me

One in the breast pocket of my jacket and one in each pant pocket

My ivory close to my heart
my bone on my right
my ram on the left(only because its the dark one of my threesum and does all the dirty work like shave me when im too lazy to do so for weeks lol)

....this may be too much, but has anyone every tried to name their razors?

Love my grelots too! Got two full and one quarter. I must say that the quarter is a lil better than the full, but that's not to say they're not in my rotation!
