What's new

My first!

So this is my first scale making-repinning- slightly modifying the blade experience. Never done any of those! I uses some nickel rod and washers from eBay, some horn I got off of Etsy, and a 12 dollar gold dollar. i made a few mistakes, mainly How scales should be done, but it works good and I think it was a good learning experience.

Looks good, I would advise making the wedge a wedge. You have a spacer right now, doesn’t need much of a taker but straights work better when the wedge is wedged.

That’s totally one thing I learned! I looked closer at my Dovo and it made sense doing a wedge shape! I made it work after I already had it glued. I had to thin the scales more, and contour them on the inside with a file around the tang! Huge hassle, but great learning experience.

Wow! I like the cut of your jib my man!

Personally, I really like spacers over wedges.
It just feels more masculine. Like old muscle cars, all tanky and authoritative.

But I do wonder how they stay closed.
Knives are almost all spacers, and they usually have either a locking mechanism or a detent to keep the blade in closed position.
In that way, I think wedges are more functional since they provide natural tension as the blade closes.
