What's new

my first

So I bought the handle from another member here and it was basically restored and ready to go. I didn't do anything to it but order a knot from TGN and set it. It may be a bit high, but I will find that out after I use it for a bit. This is the first brush I have used other than my trusty TOBS brush in probably 12 years. Sorry for the crappy pic, will take better pics after bloom.

Very nice! With that knot, I bet it has enough backbone and won't be floppy. Looking forward to post-bloom pics.

Yeah, I can already see how this turns into an AD! To tell the truth, I don't exactly know the loft. I don't normally do anything with that type of precision! It is much denser than my previous brush, I gave it a test lather earlier; treated it to cella as a first go! As for bloom, is it as simple as letting it dry after that first lathering, it does it take longer than that?

Yep. Just refers to how the knot looks after being used for the first time. The knot will sorta "bloom" once it's been used.

Welcome to the club! Looks good, and I agree you'll be fine with that loft; it will give you a nice bloom and soft face feel. The finest knots work well wherever they are set, you just get slightly different characteristics and appearance. Great backbone regardless. Definitely post those bloom shots!

Tried it this morning with T&H lavender soap, it was nice. It definitely has more backbone than my previous brush, though it's so dense I believe it needs some break in time. I may also need to revisit my lathering technique; now that I have a good brush it is showing the faults in my activity!

Hmmm.... Your post bloom shots are showing up.... Maybe I should restart my computer...?

I noticed that both the finest knots I have needed a little time to mature. It was described to me as the knot needing some time to relax. The Finest XH knot developed over the first 15 or 20 shaves.

Speaking of AD, this paragraph is making me realize that I am going to have to stop making/buying brushes at some point to truly experience what I have. (I know...that sounded like nonsense before I typed it, too.)

Thats good info. to have, I will definitely give it some time. I just took delivery of a split of Klar Kabinett shave soap that I am anxious to try, so the new brush will be introduced to that tomorrow. I will try to get post bloom pics tonight, it looks much better after opening up!
