What's new

My first straight razor shave today!~

And I thought I got into a fight with a machete...

I really had a good time though, I can't wait until my face heals a bit more so I can do it again! Practice makes perfect.

Try to keep the pressure light -- you can always do more passes if you don't get it all the first time around. Pressure and angle were the two important milestones for me. Once I got them down, I stopped seeing nicks.

Good luck.

P.S. This is my first post on B&B -- I've been straight shaving for a few months and haven't turned back. Looking forward to contributing.

Congratulations! I'm also taking the first steps in Str8 sahving:biggrin: What "point" are you using? Square? Round?
Ps - Try to put a good pre-shave oil..after a good wash with hot water..and massage your face very well ..i apply the pre-shave oil twice.. that will give the skin some protection.

Congratulations! Are you using an Alum Block after the shave? It helps close the nicks and minor cuts and is great in the fight against Razor burn. I have started str8 shaving myself only a few months ago and the Alum Block is my constant companion.

Great advice -- light pressure is one of the most important keys to a comfortable shave. (A sharp razor is the other.)

And Welcome to B&B!

More good advice. I am almost past the nick stage in my learning curve (I only nick myself occasionally now) but the alum block is still useful in two ways. It tones up the skin and it tells you where you were using to much pressure.

And welcome, Stigmas, to B&B!

My first shave was without cuts...with my incredible Filarmonica Barbas Duras Roun Point (white scales)..honed by LEON on www.Vintagescent.com ..beautifull..and my hand was shaking:laugh:..so smooth..like cutting butter:biggrin:, but i didn't do it on my neck..aren't ready..but i will get there.. So i did it with a disposible razor, consequences: cuts and nicks everywhere:mad:!!
The angle isn't perfect..but with practice i will achieve perfection!..I have to buy a alum block for the burns! The Shaving products were from Edwin and from Muehle - awsome ones! Can wait till tomorrow to practice more:biggrin::biggrin:
