What's new

My first shave with a Feather (AS)

First day: impressive, incredibly smooth shave. With a Bolzano (second shave) it rendered a great shave. Though afterwards it was a bit strange. I felt well shaven, something like DFS. WTG I could not feel anything. XTG and ATG however I could feel a lot of stubble. So the shave was extremely smooth, but not as close as I would have liked. Will try with other blades.

Second day: a Rotbart Extra Dunn (Super Thin). First pass WTG, second XTG. After touching up my difficult spot 3 times, I gave up (went 3 times XTG, ATG en WTG here). Could not get it clean. Again a very smooth shave, but not close. But a bit closer than yesterday.

I too had my first shave with the All Stainless Feather. It was outstanding, I tried it with a new Astra SS. I got a few little weepers but nothing crazy. I think my favorite thing about this razor is that the "tabs" are covered up on the blade, that keeps me from nicking my ear or my nose like I do sometimes.

I think the Feather's are really nice blades and are SHARP, but the Astra's go a little smoother and actually give me a little closer shave. Then again I am a noob, I'll revisit them when I have more experience.

A 5 o'clock shade at noon . So when I got home from work, I took my foreign legion oc, and put the Rotbart blade in. Did 2 passes, WTG and XTG. Smooth, close and no irritation.
Got a new plan for the Feather, tomorrow. I remember something Harrie wrote on the forum about shaving with a Tech. He could get fair results by doing 2 XTG passes (nose-ear and ear-nose).

Sorry to hear you aren't having good results with the Feather AS. It isn't for everyone obviously. But I get DFS+ on 3 days' beard growth when I shave with it. And I've discovered that my normal favorite blade (the 7 o'Clock Permasharp) doesn't perform as well in it. A Shark Super Chrome, though, gets me a DFS+ or BBS shave in 2.5 passes.

Third day: Gillette Bleue Extra (nos). Now I did 2 XTG (ear-nose and nose-ear). The latter was a bit strange as I had never done that. It did work. Got a CCS. Will do 2 XTG with the Feather AS from now on.

As I could feel my beard at 14,00 now (we are improving), I decided to put a Feather in for the evening shave. Did 3 passes: WTG, XTG and XTG (other direction). Gave a passable result. My difficult spot was still very rough and the face was not completely clean too. CCS again, I would say. Hope this one last longer than the previous shave (GBE nos). But I am getting the feeling this razor may not be for very coarse beards. I never do more than 2 passes, use "simple" blades with my normal razors, and get a result that is at least equal to this. I do not understand this, as it has the same gap as the portable.

This may be a mix up on the forum, could be that the AS has the same gap as the POPULAR (0.63 mm), not the portable (0.79 mm). That would explain things, as the Popular is a mild shaver (just above the Tech).

Mild is in the eye of the beholder. To me, the feather+feather combo gives me BBS with absolutely no irritation. If that is what you define as mild, then I think it's a good quality. To each their own.

I do wonder what the sales comparisons are between the Pils and Feather. I suspect since classicshaving is selling out repeatedly on the Feather, the total number sold is likely higher, but I don't really know for sure. But, that could explain the slighly higher number of feathers on BST.

Just had my third shave using the same (Feather) blade :w00t:. That's a first for me. Till now a Feather was just good for one shave. Have found a way to use this razor, but it will be for the weekends, as I need some passes to get a reasonable shave. More than I can do on a work day :wink2: But with this razor I can even go ATG, without too much trouble.

And the FOURTH, but after that nice shave I changed the blade for a Treet Durasharp Classic. Got a very nice and even close shave. Perhaps I am getting the hang of it. But I have to go XTG/GTX and ATG with the AS to get the stubble of.

Nice. I've been changing out my feather blades after a week of use in this razor, and they work beautifully the whole week.
