What's new

My first restore attempt

Well, I received a W&B last week and decided to use it as my first restore project.

The horn scales would likely have been salvageable by someone with the experience, but I decided to make new scales. I also only did a little cleaning of the blade, did not try to bring it back to a mirror finish, as it was I lost some of the etching on the blade.

I can see that I will need to work on getting the scales more evenly built, and really need to work on doing inlays if I want to continue down that avenue. Overall I am happy with how it turned out, especially since it is just for me :001_smile

Nice job for your first restore. What did you use for your inlay, and how did you do it?
curious minds want to know.

btw. nice cut mat and tooling marble :w00t:

The inlay is Lapis Lazuli. I think I would have preferred to use turquoise, but I could not find any when I went shopping. There is a section on it in the SRP wiki, look for chip inlay. I have found with a little experimentation that you want a quite "dense" coloured material (as in, the colour is fairly dominant throughout the material, not just here and there). What I would like to try is coloured glass, see how that works.
