I logged on to post on my first OC shave and immediately saw the thread posted earlier today by tfinch. Nice haul! Hope you enjoy, and please let us know how the first shave goes.
I too got my first OC today, a German Lunawerk travel razor, and just finished my first shave. Disclaimer: I am in no way an expert. In fact I have logged a grand total of about 20 DE shaves. I have learned a few things, though. First, everyone's experience of everything is different, hence YMMV. Second, there may well be other noobs who are intrigued by the open comb that can better identify with the recent experience of a fellow noob than one of the "old hands." (No offense, older gents. My hairline will attest that I've been around longer than some of our brothers who have much more DE experience.)
I'll spare you the whole story of acquisition. If you're interested, you can read a bit about it here. I will however post a couple of pics and brag the purchase price of less than 6 bucks (plus $1.80 for the gold Gillette razor box)!

Now for the shave. I used my usual method with a new 7 o'clock Russian green, my favorite blade in my very mild $6 Chinese Reimi. My first thought (right sideburn and cheek) was, "I can't tell a difference. Hmm." Then I got to my upper lip and realized, "Oh, crap! I can actually feel the blade!" It didn't hurt and there was no cut, but I could definitely tell the difference between the blade contacting my lip versus the safety bar of the Rimei. I kept going very carefully and with almost no pressure whatsoever. Still, I was aware of the blade contacting my skin from there on, and I wondered if there might be some extra irritation after.
My usual 3 passes (WTG, XTG, ATG) didn't get as close as my usual shave, so I used very gently pressure on my usual touch up. The touch test felt pretty clean, so I did the normal cold rinse and reached for the alum block. I braced for extra sting, but was surprised that there was none. I cold rinsed again and applied the normal Nivea Sensitive Balm. It caused a bit of burn, but that could be because I had added some extra sandalwood essential oil (a variable because of the likely presence of alcohol in the oil?).
Now for the verdict. I got a BBS shave and didn't draw a speck of blood (I have never drawn more than two). When I asked SWMBO to evaluate, she thought it was smoothest yet. Next time I think I'll try using the Rimei handle with the Lunawerk head since it's a bit heavier. I'm not sold yet, but I am intrigued! I'm working on an Old purchase and look forward to trying it.
