My first eBay razor....

Took a chance on an auction that was a bit iffy.
It was list as Vintage Engraved Silver Toned Engraved Boxed Gillette G2 Mens Shaving Razor USA

The pictures were pretty bad, showed the outside of the box, but not the inside.
I could tell it was a Fatboy that was in need of a good cleaning but it was hard to tell if the plating was all there.
Since not too many people bid on it, I got it for $31.73 + shipping to Canada, total was under $40 to my door

Heres the case it came in, scratched and covered with soap scum I think...

Pretty dirty and green...

Indeed a G2, 1961

Took a fair amount of soaking and scrubbing but I got it looking pretty decent
The box is still scratched but it is clean and shiny, it is very heavy, I think it is made of plated brass

The Fatboy cleaned up

Not perfect, but a nice useable, daily driver Fatboy that wasnt too expensive

Hmmm I was wondering about that, wasnt sure if the Fatboy belonged in this case or not.
It has lived in this case for a while by the look of the velvet.
Any guesses as to what model might be the proper razor for the case?

You did just fine on both the box and the razor. It's amazing what a little judicious cleaning can do for a razor. Come to think of it, it's also amazing what a little injudicious cleaning can do to a razor.

Nice razor. Definitely not a Fatboy case, though. Fatboy cases were clear plastic with a white plastic under the razor.

Looks like a case for a New Improved, which dates it to 1920-'29.

I just bought a second one off the 'bay and I have no idea why. This RAD is out of control and irrational.

Seems more like a chromium-plated NEW DeLuxe Big Boy case, to me (below). I'm fairly sure all the New Improved Big Fellow cases I've seen have had the "Big Fellow" imprint on the headliner with the diamond logo slightly above center to accommodate. Also, the New Improved cases have both the "Made in U.S.A." and "Known the World Over" lines around the logo.
