My first brush

Hi all,

Here is a pic of my first brush!

... I bought this 20 or so years ago. Vulfix with a screw off cap that once contained styptic. Dropped it around 10 years ago and the cap thread broke, I epoxied it back - poor old fella!

Here is pics of brush 2 and 3.

Do you think the Vulfix needs a dignified burial?

LOL - well I did use it thoroughly and before the internet and RAD really came in

I just did a good clean as per the info from our Sydney mates info.

Luc, do you really think it is worth restoring? If so how should I go about it?

Cheers

Jase,
Hook up with the golden nib for a new knot. There's lots of How Tos around the forum. It's not rocket science and you'll have a cool keepsake. My avatar is my 1st brush.

It depends how you see this... I like using my stuff for a while, fix it, use it, fix it, etc. I, somehow, become attached to my things. I know that I own an object but I wouldn't exchange it. Think if you would enjoy using the same handle? That would be the only question.

If the answer is yes, then you should restore it!

I didn't restore any brush, yet... I know that Fidjit did with a butterscotch so he should be able to help you out on where to get your things (as we are down under).

I think there's a tutorial somewhere on the board showing this. You need to drill out the hairs, find a knot (badger, super, best, silvertip) and glue it back. Before you do so, you could buff, sand, varnish, re-paint, etc the handle.

Restoring the brush is not that big-a-deal. Drill or dremel out the knot, clean up the inside, set the loft (how much of the brush that's sticking out) and epoxy in the new knot. Done. Now you have an equivalent to a very, very expensive brush.

After reading all the posts on this read, I'd say restore it. Maybe there should be a sticky on B&B on how to restore a brush?
