What's new

My first brush and second bowl/stand

Getting the knots for my recent restoration lead me to make a brush handle, bowl, and stand. You may have seen my first razor/brush stand and bowl. Well I made another and I have more ideas yet to come. I put a Silver Tip in this one to see how it goes. I've got more knots, more wood ( exotics) as well as bone, ivory etc. to make whatever i wish. If you're interested, I'll post them as I go along.
The first photo is my first piece. The rest of the photo's are my second piece. And if you travel around the site, you'll see this posted elsewhere. Sorry for the redundancy.
And you're right, the razor doesn't fit. so I plan to get more EJ's, remove the handles, turn and then carve a piece to match this set. I think it'll be pretty nice looking when I'm done. Ahh,, more ideas keep coming. I think you'll enjoy the others I've made.

Are you kidding me, you made those! WOW, those are heirloom quality and look like old world craftsmanship. Very nice indeed.

Holy **** those are amazing. You are really talented. I'd love to have something like that sitting in my den.

idea! hollow out the bottom of your brush, pop in a magnet and then lightly seal so if doesn't rust. other side of the magnet goes in the holder. Snap!

Thanks guys, you have encouraged me. Yes, I do plan on creating a line of handles in a wide variety of materials/ designs etc.
Actually , since I don't want to keep slipping my brush with this nice a handle into and out of a traditional ring I do have magnets imbedded into both the handle as well as the stand to hold it securely and it removes nicely without disturbing the stand. But I didn't just seal over the magnet. I turned another piece as a plug, inserted it so the end looks like nothing happened. I plan on doing this for my "line" as I think it's an original idea and presents the brush well when it's on display.
Also, at any time I can completely dis-assemble the stand for repair or refinish. Along with that, I can modify the razor holder to accomodate two or more razors as well as new designs I have for straights,,,,, wait till you see those!
I'm also designing a line of bowls that should prove clever and unusual as well as stands to hold multiple razors and display them nicely.
Being a full time wood carver /designer I like to find the unusual, distinctive ways of doing things. Maybe it's a new twist to an old idea but I like it. Wait till you see my other pieces. I know some only want to see the traditional shapes, and I can do them easily,, I just like to push the envelope a bit if you know what I mean. It's easy to spin a handle. I'm looking for something special or unique. Really, that's what my customers look for. Things out of the ordinary.
And if you're gonna' buy something custom, why have it look like everyone elses or things that have been done before. Like I said, I can do traditional. But I lean towards creative solutions.

Thank you again gentlemen. I appreciate all the comments. If there is a demand for my work I have no problem in filling orders. This is the nature of my full time work so why not include a line of brushes.

Oh woe is me.I have no fortune to give for a set like yours.Boo hoo hoo. That is the best brush, mug, stand I have ever had the pleasure to view.Thank you for sharing your talents with us.

This might be a bit of a liberty, since this is your profession and all, but on a future project would it be possible to photograph the process you take to make one of these sets? I'm sure I would not be the only one who would be interested to see how you go about it. They look great.

Ahhh Legion,, you're trying to get a peek behind the curtain and see what OZ is all about! LOL,,,
I also frequent other woodworking sites as well as have my blog. There is where I usually post "tutorials" in how I do my thing.
The reality is I think it might be boring to see me sitting there carving what appears ( in a design like this) the same thing over and over. Other than that,, it's spinning a lathe, sanding, sealing etc. You know,, normal woodworking stuff. Same basic thing, over and over, just different things tend to appear.
Not trying to be evasive,, but it is simply just that.
I know some might be interested,, but most don't really care how I accomplish things, they just want to see results.
Me too!

Very nice wood work

Beautiful with great craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing the pictures:thumbup1:

Edit: I also like your avatar. Reminds me of some antique sculpted faces a family member has

Thank you guys, I appreciate the thoughtful comments.
Yes, I do sell my work. It's what I do for a living actually!
I do quite a few brushes and now I'm designing bowls for lather, soap storage as well as razor stands.
I just wish I'd get a response to becoming a vendor so I could post the pieces I've done and pieces I'm working on. Three inquiries ,not one response.
